HOw in a million years can you say we wont be as bad next year? We wont have Vanek so we will have 0 offensive talent - hubie
Oh they'll be bad next year, but the odds of getting the top pick two years in a row are slim. And given the piss poor offensive performance this year, management would be hard pressed not to get some sort of offensive stop gap in here next year. |

That's my point though, and why I hate the fact that this is the year that they are tanking. I doubt they'll be this bad next year. They'll be bad, but not bad enough to get a lottery pick in 2015. The talent in this draft will be good at the top. The Sabres will get a guy that might be fun to watch, and even get some people around the league talking, but not that will win you much in the long run. - buffalofan19
Sabres minus 26 and 30 will be much worse next season. I believe this season they will start winning a little bit. Again right now it's the veterans playing bad, not the rookies, that wont last all year |

There was no harm in playing Luke Adam on the top line. However it definitely didnt have a positive effect on his career either - sbroads24
Because Luke Adam and Grigorenko are the same player?
Is it possible that Grigs has zero confidence in himself because the coach he has shows zero confidence in him.
What better way to kickstart a supposed offensive star then to play him with the likes of Scott and McCormick who have 1 goal in 2 years over Vanek,Hodgson,Ott,Ennis. People who he can actually learn from and communicate with on the ice. |

Didn't you know, that since he can't play in Rochester, the 4th line is the next best thing? |

If me and you know this, an NHL coach does. There is something else that we don't see going on with him |

But remeber you can only finish one spot before the one you finished so top 4 is well well within reach |

I'm not sure you can get much worse than this. Normally, you accidentally win a few games you shouldn't by now. |

You're assuming other teams won't unload players and rebuild after this year. You're also assuming that the young players on this team won't even slightly improve.
Also, it's a big assumption that the coach and GM will remain the same. I know everyone thinks Regier will be here for years, but the public outcry has become too much. They're going to need to fire Regier eventually simply because they're getting publicly embarrassed night in and night out by the fans and the media alike. Remember the game before Ruff got fired. It was in large part because the fans completely humiliated the team on their home ice. |

we are fringe 30th right now with vanek
the guy refuses to kill penalties
the guy refuses to move to RW
I am not sure how the team would be worse off
right now, worst case we get a late first rd pick and upper prospect and turn the page

That still could be the difference between 24th or 25th and 30th. |

Risto is back with the Sabres. It was only a paper move mentioned in the last line of this article.
The Sabres are going to have a lot of numbers in their roster when Leino and Tropp return to the lineup. Also, how many D do they have back up here now with Risto? Deals are a commin

More stellar writing about our beloved team:
"Nine games into the season, the Florida Panthers are 3-6-0. They have six points and they are currently seventh in the eight team Atlantic Conference ahead of only the lowly Buffalo Sabres." |

Look, if you're going to tank, it had better before the closest thing to a can't miss you can get. The only one that fits that description over the next two drafts is McDavid. Anything else, and you become the Oilers and the Islanders, better, but nowhere near elite. |

What good is cap space if you're going to do nothing with it? |
