Put Vanek on the fourth line and you'll get the same results.

Would he still take a slap shot from just inside the blueline on a breakaway?

I agree with all 5 of your points. I think the 3-2-1 point system would be even better if it were 3 for reg. win, 2 for an OT win and 1 point for a SO win. No more loser points.

Before the start of every season I keep thinking the trapezoid will be eliminated...how do they not deal with this one already?

As for the 3-2-1 points system, I don't like it because it still rewards a loser which doesn't happen in other sports. Yes, regulation wins should mean more so just keep it 2 points for regulation win, 1 for OT/Shootout and 0 for any type of loss. I'd even award 2 points for OT like they used to before they introduced the loser point and just keep 1 point for a shootout winner....that way you'll have more teams go for a win in Regulation or OT and hopefully that results in a lot less of the absurd shootouts.

Some people just don't have that knack and are just fine. Some people need people with similar skill value to even look competent. Grigorenko seems like one of those guys. I don't care if the guy stands at center ice, and doesn't move while the play is going on with Scott or McCormick. Playing him with non-skill players hurts both him and the team.
- buffalofan19

That was always my argument in support of Gerbe. Now he's in Carolina with 6 points in 9 games - all 6 of his points with Jordan Staal on a line with him (you know..a skill guy).

Wait, you mean if you put skill guys who compliment each other in skill, they score?

That would never happen. Kevin's post gave out 3 points every game. Your example would give out only 1 point in many games.

I don't see the NHL ever doing something that drastic.

Gerbe will slow down, but your point is still valid. Jordan Staal has never been a slouch offensively, and Gerbe is benefiting from that early. The problem is that other than Vanek and Hodgson, the Sabres have nobody that Gerbe could play with of that caliber.

Gerbe had his chance here. It didn't work out. He was on our 2nd line last year for a while and couldn't score. He will taper off by mid season

Crazy concept...

It's no guarantee, but who the hell is really going to make much impact with Scott and McCormick on your line? Sure, watch his game and see how he's playing, but no numbers are going to come as a result of those line mates and low minutes.

Put him on a line with Larsson and Girgensons, let the "powerhouse" top 6 play together, and see what these kids can all do together (or maybe even Girgensons, Grigorenko, Flynn on a line? - I like Flynn's hustle, way more than Porter).

1. no touch icing
2. 3 on 3 after the first 5 minutes of OT before a shootout
3. modify the delay of game penalty where the ref can determine if there was intent or not.
4. consistent ref calls for every period of every game
5. sabres find a way to at least play for 40 minutes a night since 60 minutes is too much to ask for

I was trying to set up a team for 2014 lineup, and I have nothing. The team is just kind of thrown together, the pieces dont fit.

Ok while I agree, Grigorenko needs more ice time, there are other young guys on this team. Why should one get handed more ice time and the others have to work hard and sacrifice their bodies to get top 6 minutes? If I was Flynn or Girgensons I would be pissed if Grigo was just handed a top 6 role when it's pretty evident he is doing little to earn that position. If this was a team full of players that know there role that would be one thing. But this is a rebuilding team where these guys need to earn their future spots on this team

I think everyone should get a point jsut for showing up

Issue with the 2 pts for ot win youd need to make the period longer then.

You know how those other young guys can fix that? Winning some games. All the effort in the world means jack crap if you lose every night. Now, I'm not convinced at all that Grigorenko in the top 6 will make a difference, but I do know that these other kids haven't. It should be all about results, and it's not. It's a big reason why this team is so terrible.

I said the same thing about Gerbe. He's a skill guy. Not a grinder. Yet he was out there with the 3rd and 4th liner. Let's plug a square peg into a round hole and then complain it doesn't fit.

Well DUH!

Look at this team right now and how it will look for next year unless massive changes are made. It's the same way.

I did. You want to move Grigorenko up the lineup. It's obvious he's not doing something to earn it. Not sure how else you want to put it. If he's not working hard it's an insult to the other players. You don't do that on a young team
