At under a million, either of them would be decent.

they could impose there own salary restrictions and be competitive.

MLB will never be capped.

- Fountain-San

i believe 3 of the bottom 5 MLB teams made the playoffs? you can be competitive for sure. winning a WS? not so sure. STL and BOS are up there in salary...

They should be able to beat Edmonton. Anaheim and especially San Jose will be very difficult.

It's just that if you look at the whole thing, a stadium and a franchise would run close to (if not above) a billion dollars.

there's no way anything that scale gets done in Quebec (or in most places) without any form of government involvement and financing.

everyone is already starting to look pretty silly with this potentially empty rink in QC and they won't touch another project until that is filled if it ever is.

also the government is flat broke, int he midst of a corruption scandal at pretty much all levels involving specifically construction.

I imagine before building any other facilities there would need to be some kind of disposition for the Big O which is not functional and yet would probably have to serve as a temporary home for any franchise for the 15 years it would take to build a enw stadium, after which some type of disposition for it would have to be agreed upon. You can`t even tear the poophole down for less than half a billion which probably means upwards of a billions.

anyone with deep enough pockets has show they are only interested in investing at minimal risk (i.e. state makes the investment and we collect the benefits).

Hockey works in Montreal becasue of its history, soccer does well becasue of immigrants and I'm curious to see how that works out as well as the Als if they go into a 2-3 year deep funk.

well there is 2x amount of games and 3x bigger stadium. Only Red Sox and Maybe Yankess sell out every game and Sox streak ended this season when they were expected to suck.

i really don't think attendance would be an issue in Montreal with an open-air downtown park. i'm not sure anyone does. like dt says, who fronts that kind of cash? gotta build a stadium, buy the team and pay the relocation fee.
