Lundqvist was by far and away the most vocal with regard to Torts and his firing. I'm very sure he's feeling the pressure of that, and the fact that he's unsigned, and really doesn't want to leave NY. Not the kind of issues you want when you're struggling.

i agree about the contract issues. he can say it isn't a distraction all he wants, but it clearly is on his mind.

callahan is a tough guy to gauge as far as value goes. he's priceless to the rangers because they're clearly not the same team without him, but he's not a rental type player that teams are going to pick up at the deadline in hopes to make a playoff run. so what do you do if the season is a wash? sign him and overpay because he's the center of the franchise? i guess you could trade him, but you'd be losing a lot more value than you would be getting back.

I know I likely am in the minority & again, hate to say it cause Cally is the man. Would hate to see him get a huge $$ deal & be downtrodden w injuries for the rest of his career. Hope I'm wrong.

Well, He'll be 29 in March, how about 5 years around 28 mil?

at least we have a coach that isn't mean to Sam Rosen or says mean things to the press about Carl Hagelin.

He may not know when to call a timeout, but, this nice guy thing is working wonderfuly

- jimbro83

And so is his new system, boy this team is playing modern era hockey aren't they?

I don't think it is inconsistent to love Cally, and at the same time be concerned about giving him, say, a 6 year/$36 million deal.

from Elliot Friedman CBC sports:

6. I asked a few people who've seen New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist: "What do you see there? What's wrong?" There are two things mentioned. First, the team defence is not good, which can make any goalie look bad. The second is that he looks smaller. In September, Lundqvist said he felt faster in the new equipment. But a couple of guys pointed out that playing as deep as he does, there are more shooting holes than ever. When you've got time, you can find them.

7. It sounds as if half the NHL was in attendance for one of Lundqvist's best performances, last Wednesday's 2-0 win in Washington. The Rangers simply outworked the Capitals, who didn't get great reviews. You can see it on television; there is simply not the same energy or intensity from the team's best players when they aren't on the power play.

Interesting. Marty (I hate Lundqvist) Brodeur said as much in the preseason. When commenting about the new goalie equipment and Hank.

Makes sense. Against the Caps, he was coming out of his net, challenging shooters and taking away angles. When hes not doing that, hes going to get beat with the new equiptment

you literally can't find anyone in the world more of a Lundqvist fan than me.

But, I think we should be very wary about a long term deal like 8 million a year.

I actually think maybe it's a good thing they are trying to keep him in 6 million range.

Agreed, and no more than 5-6 years. Should give him the security he needs.

I think Lundqvist made a mistake not taking whatever the best offer was before this season started..

There aren't a whole lot of teams that need a starting goalie, not sure what team would give him 7 years 56 million next summer. Other than the Islanders maybe.

It certainly makes sense for the Isles, but would he really do that? He's really opening himself up for a lot of grief. Guy lives on the west side for goodness sakes, if have to run away to LI.

The Flyers could make a run for him as well, they just seem so capped out, hard to see it happening.

#NYR Hour into practice and Vigneault putting the Rangers through some extended skating drills/sprints

We need him to turn into Herb Brooks and just start yelling AGAIN for about the next 6 hours.

I would be shocked if there wasn't a goaltender that had a bad strectch in their career, he's been dominant for 8 years, he's no one year fluke and I for one refuse to turn my back over 8 games and forget all he's done
- cranford93

"Forget all he's done?" What has he done? Hasn't won a Cup and hasn't won the conference championship. But how convenient to overlook these "non-accomplishments" as trivial.

He won a Vezina & has been nominated what, 4 other times? He has singlehandedly been the reason the Rangers have had any success the last 4-5 years.

I honestly hate that measure for an individual in a team sport, especially hockey. There is no bigger team sport than hockey. No one player can solely win a game so I think that's a terrible judge of skill, especially a goalie. It is not Hank's fault this team struggled to score goals which you need to win a hockey game. Just don't think championships should decide who is good and who isn't (See Marino, Dan).

Pretty sure he won a vezina and was nominated a few times. And I don't recall anyone in this thread calling winning a cup or conference a "non-accomplishment".

Marty Brodeur hasn't won a thing without Scott Stevens, but I still think Marty belongs in the Hall of Fame
