With the way things are going this season, if Hank did pull his groin, it was probably from a wonderful deke by Taylor Pyatt during practice.

I love this team but I am okay with them being atrocious this season. If you're not first you're last...

Mine as well bottom out rather than be a bubble team. To be honest though, the way things look thus far, they aren't good enough to be a bubble team.

Idk if he did pull a groin, I was being sarcastic. But I know that the guy must have some type of issue, because I can't remember him missing practice.

Maybe he has a headache or something like that. I am sure Brooks, Zipay or Gross will get to the bottom of that in no time.

He's damn right, I am tired of seeing this team be good enough to not be a basement dweller but bad enough to never really be considered a true cup contender; sans 2012 of course.

Nothing wrong with sucking for a year or two and get the top, or one of the top, prospects in those respective drafts. Rangers have some B+, A- prospects but never truly A or A+ type kids in their system.

In this day and age, the draft is where you make your team truly solid.

if we were a little worse in 2004, we would have ended up with Ovechkin or Malkin.

I totally agree with this sentiment.

Just think at the 2003 Amateur Draft, if Sather & Co. weren't smoking f*cking peyote, and in 2004 actually losing a few more games they would have two likely superstars on the current roster.

In 2003, passing up on Parise, Getzlaf, Perry and Kesler and then having either Ovechkin or Malkin if they pulled a 1984 Penguin move? The course of this franchise would have been drastically, yet for the better, changed.

2003-2004 season, Rangers had 11 more points than Pitt, 10 more points than Washington.

What did those extra 5 wins get them? nothing.

I am totally on board with if we are gonna suck this year, we need to really suck.

2003 is just the microcosm of the Rangers drafting strategy.

Guys taken after the Rangers took Jessiman
Brown
Seebrook
Parise
Getzlaf
Burns
Kesler
Richards
Perry
Eriksson
Bergeron
Weber
Backes

On and on the names go. Such a sickening subject.

And Korpikoski, who while not really a 1st round talent is still a serviceable NHLer. They traded him for 57 games and 14 points of Enver Lisin.

They missed on Mike Green, Smid, Zajac, Schneider, Edler and Rinne.

The deepest draft in recent memory and the Rangers have literally nothing to show for, in the first two rounds.

Smid and Zajac suck but the rest are big misses for sure.

Those were two crucial seasons, where the Rangers could have bolstered their team for years, and they completely dropped the ball.

Both are better players than Montoya. Not all stars but better.

Absolutely but neither would be helping this team at the moment. They need a few legitimate scoring stars, period.

That 2003 draft was loaded all over the place

Looking back, since Im a CHI fan, I commend the blackhawks on them drafting on need more than the abundance of offensive talent there.

They walked away with 1 NHL goaltender and two big bodied dmen in Crawford, Seabrook, and Byfuglien.

People talk about all the wealth of offensive talent that was there, but sometimes you need to focus on your organization first.

True, every team has their share of busts at the wrong time.

The Blackhawks took Cam Barker with the 3rd overall pick which completely busted, they just were fortunate the 2004 draft was a crappy one and they didnt really miss out on much

Anyone catch the bobby orr interview on francesa?

For a guy that is a hockey god, he is a really down to earth humble guy. I only caught the last 5mins of the interview but it was pretty good.

With that 2003 draft and the ability to grab Toews and Kane, in back to back drafts, the Hawks were setting their core up very nicely for years to come.

If they are going to totally suck, better of sucking next year. Ekblad and Reinhart are excellent players, but I am not sure if either of them will be the guaranteed superstars type number 1 picks. In short, I am not sure either one of them is worth blowing a whole season over. Next year, is altogether different. Just win the Cup this year, and tank next.
