Yea I think berube aside from mason has been the only bright spot... This is bad and I'm not holding out hope until the whole front office is cleaned out. Thanks, Ed it's been more than great but it's time to go.

Joe, your transformation on this site from bryz defender to org skeptic has been...uh...striking

the team had a brutal start under lava and managed to get it together and squeak in that year. collectively, they underperformed with the kind of talent on that team. there's less talent here now, i think, but enough for them to be much better than they are...at least a .500 squad. things may continue to get worse before they get better. don't think some kind of rash move of a trade and firing holmgren will make any difference. for whatever reason, they "played" the 2nd period yesterday as if they had no interest in being out there. don't have an explanation for that. can't put that on berube. the team has to be self-motivated to some degree, especially given the circumstances. it's a mindset that has to change.

the saddest thing is they're wasting outstanding effort after outstanding effort from mason. he's picked up right where he left off from last year and this is probably the best thing that can happen. have to solidify the net. he knows he's playing well, believe me. i expect that to continue.

the week off can either have them stew in their own poop and be a turning point, or it can be just a temporary break in a season-long suckfest. the choice is theirs.

I dont think it was Homer's decision

He said it was, but who knows. If he knew he was in the way out it makes sense to bring in your successor. We may never know the truth, but At least we know what our future holds in the GM dept

I feel like Flyers fans are turning into Eagles fans. A bunch of WIP idiots.

I read a tweet last night mentioning trading Couts, a 1st and either Cousins, Laughton, or Lauridson for Vanek.

Ill be painfully honest.. The one thing this team desperately needs is patience from the org. We have a tonnnn of raw talent with huge potential. Lets be patient! Im ok with a few years of meh hockey if it will allow us to build our team from the ground up.

Lets take a look at the top 10 teams in the NHL right now, and how many times they made the playoffs in the past ten years...

SJ-9/10 years
Col-5/10 years
Pitt-7/10 years
Det-10/10 years
Tor- 1/10
Ana- 7/10 years
Stl-5/10
Mtl-7/10 years
Tb-5/10 years
Chi- 5/10 years

The Flyers? 8/10

8 of those 10 have had multiple losing seasons in the past 10 years... Be smart. Be patient. Dont try to win it all every year AT ALL COSTS. Let your team mold itself. Draft well.

The way they have been losing is disheartening. It doesn't look like they are losing because they are trying to get a new system down. That's what worries me.

I got to watch this debacle up close and personal. I sat behind the net where the Flyers shot twice. The only action I got to see was in the second period, the rest of it was a fair distance away.

Claude Giroux looked like Jean Valjean after learning that Inspector Javert was manning the slot for the other team. You could tell he wanted nothing to do with that area and stayed well to the perimeter for most of his shifts.

The only player that drew my attention all night who wore an orange jersey was Raffl.

Ugh.

BIG changes a comin my friends.

Couturier Laughton and cousins are players that will hopefully get us out of this mess eventually. So yeah lets trade them all

letting homer go won't change much on the ice right now, but as the team moves forward, someone else needs to be in charge of making personnel moves. i think...hope, the time hexy spent outside the org serves him well.

Homer played in the bully era and feels the game needs enforcers and 4th line energy guys. Homer has the Bob Clarke mentality about big slow veteran Dmen

these are good points. there needs to be a patient rebuild on d...a plyr or 2 to bridge the gap between now and when morin/hagg are ready to be significant contributors. there has to be some return to a mean of meh because right now, they are in free fall...that may involve a reasonable trade to help scoring when they are not in desperation mode.

Whole buncha anger up in here.

All you kids that want bag skates and what not will probably all get your wish this week after that second period.

I just don't think this team has enough talent to compete and I include the young guys in that. They aren't ready to take prime time roles. They have to grow into them.

Fans either have to be patient or go through another frenetic trade off of young assets for veteran guys who may or may not pan out.

I dont mind a trade every now and again, but there has to be some sort of stability...

Let guys develop properly. Look at the Blues.. perfect mix of patience, drafting well, and smart moves by the GM at the right time. They are gonna be a very good team for a lonnggg time.

I can't shake this feeling that we're at the start of another stretch of "5 years lost in the wilderness" like we were in the early '90s.

I hope I'm wrong, I hope I'm just suffering from end of summer pessimism or whatever... but... this team looks terrible on the ice... and the front office, you know what? They look kinda lost to me too.

On the brighter side, I hear we're about to call up Corey Foster, Gord Hynes, Kimbi Daniels, and Dale Kushner.

i don't buy that at all. he's tried to get puck movers in here and failed. ultimately, it will prove to be his undoing.

Bill,
Someone wrote an article yesterday about going after Vanek. Both Buffalo and the Flyers are struggling mightily. What kind of package would make sense to pry Vanek out of Buffalo? He probably won't resign there anyway, but what are their needs that we could package to fill?

Buffalo is pretty loaded with prospects at all most every position but the wing ( I believe ) they have 2-3 very good center prospects good goalie prospects and a plethora of D prospects.

and it took a lonnggg time for it to come about as well. this owner would never wait that long. i like the DET model...puck possession, skill team; superior scouting ;patient w/ prospects; big signings/trades are usually made to put them over the hump.

in short, we need a new culture.

After last night I won't be watching for awhile

What piece exactly? An upgrade for Coburn?
- fidopro

And what are the several pieces that we'd have to give up to land said upgrade? 'Cause if Coburn's as awful as this board seems to believe, who's going to want just him when they're giving up a legit top-4 defender? Whatever it is, I don't want to give it up.

Well the bright side to that 5 years of misery in the 90's?

11 straight years of 1st or 2nd place in the Atl. division. There is a reason Pitt is so good right now. There is a reason Chi has two championships in the past few years. There is a reason the Islanders are turning things around.
