If you took the 'C' and the 'A's off the uniforms and asked me to identify those whom I believed were the leaders of this team, I honestly could not. There is no on ice leadership presence on this team as it's presently constructed.

Not only was this team constructed without any viable leadership, worse, it also has no character. And that's gut wrenching.

Hey guys, sorry if it's been posted, but Paul Stewart's blog has a video of the Bureau/Svoboda hit complete with the Mactavish fight. That was the only time I thought I saw someone die, and I hated Bureau when he was on the Flyers. I also forgot how MacT wouldn't stop, and actually ended up kneeing him. The NHL needs more guys like him.

Thanks for the tip, I'd have missed that otherwise.

I forgot all about that incident. Scary stuff. Kudos to MacT. So funny how Hextall would give the Mtl players the business as they were escorted off.

It's hard to argue against that. But I think there are different demons at play here.

You're right.

I haven't even mentioned the front office and coaching staff yet.

I'm struggling to make sense of it. I thought that with the additions and another year of seasoning of the young guys, that the team would be better. I wasn't prepared to say they'd make the playoffs in a tough division but I thought they were headed in the right direction. What happened? I'm beginning to think that the winning streak at the end of the year was fools gold. If that's the case, could it be that the players we got for Carter and Richards just aren't as good as we thought. Understand, that Carts and Richie were two accomplished players and would not be fully replaced until the young players developed. I'm just questioning the ceiling on Schenn, Coots and Voracek. I think Holmgren recognized that they need a scorer but he couldn't pull off a deal. Would having a Bobby Ryan on this squad be a significant enough upgrade to change the long term trajectory?

the young players haven't all developed. were they all supposed to emerge from a cocoon in two years and be perfect?

Watching hockey central at noon.. they spoke about how NJ hasn't won a game and still isn't in last place in it's division. Then they said they still need to get Ed Snider on the show!!! Everyone laughing... man we are a freaking joke right now.
- Hextall271

What was funnier is the story of sather having home stat guys pump up mcgillis hit totals to drive up his trade value and were the suckers that traded for him thinking they were getting this hitting machine. Yep your philadelphia flyers.

No they're not. It's a fact that all NHL coaches mold their players to be exactly what they were. That's why Gretzky's no longer a coach in Phoenix, because all of his players didn't buy into his "Be the most gifted player in NHL history" system.

No, but wasn't there supposed to be a firm experienced group of players whose responsibility it was to wean these guys in and show them by example the correct way to play?

If the kids were expected to carry this team, whooo boy!

There is no doubt in my mind. If we assembled a front office of the top hockebuzzers in here. GM, asst, a whole scouting department. Everyone takes a month seminar on the ins and outs of the job. If there is no Ed snider lurking over this group there is no question in my mind a better team will be built.
