doesn't mean it can't happen now?
- webleedblue

Pretty freakin' unlikely, though. GM's will take lesser deals to avoid trading within conference, much less division.

What's MDZ in your mind? A top-4 Dman? A bottom pairing guy?

I agree and that is why I want them to reward hard work with more ice time and vice versa no matter who the players is out there. If rinaldo is going to bust his ass every shift then I want him to get more than 5 mins. I know he is a 4th liner who can take a few shifts on other lines here and there but he works his ass off. reward hard work with ice. you don't want to work hard, you sit no matter who you are. Not talking about mistakes like Schenn gripping the stick and managing to hit Fleury's stupid stick. I am talking just flat out lazy or dumb ass plays

I love G. he's my fave player but I really want to see him step up and lead this team.

- nastyflyergirl

Yep. Giroux's play has been very disappointing. Of the 20+ guys that have seen the ice thus far, you can count on one hand who has played competitive hockey.

1. Mason
2. B. Schenn
3. Couturier
4. Mcginn
5. Gustafsson/Raffl

I think that it's the systematic/habits/psychological issues that are at play. not that this team just isn't good.
- MJL

We'll see... I hope it's the former and a few tweaks by the coach and to the players will sort everything out.

I have to admit, the longer this futility drags on, the more I'm starting to see the logic behind AllInForFlyers' argument that this team just isn't as talented as everybody thought.

you no as i have been sitting here on my day i have been thinking... for a success full line in the nhl your top 2 lines need the same thing...
a grinder..hartnell/ simmonds
a play maker... Giroux/ Vinny/ Vorachek
a finnisher....?????
some could put read here
then you come to Cooter... what is he defensive forward/checker passer...we don't no cause he dosnt get the chance to work offensively accept on the power play.

then we have the grinders fighter checkers that make up the rest of the forwards...

this team is missing its finishers... maybe cousins/laughton

the next six days this team needs to decide what they are they need to find there identity there niche so to speak.... they need to make use of what they have not what they can trade for.... they need to start playing like a team instead of playing scared and worried about who is going to fluck up next and make the next mistake....

Well on the bright side, they are all young players. I thought Vinny was playing well too and I have liked Streit more than you have.

Yes. Lecavalier was playing pretty well. The only one who likes Streit less than me is Mr. Tomahawk.

How a collection of players, plays as a team, is not always equal to the talent level on a team. There is plenty of talent, there is no doubt about that. Maybe it's just the wrong mix of players. But to suggest that every offensively talented player on this team, somehow lost that ability over the Summer, doesn't wash. I think anyone who suggests that this team has last overall talent in the NHL on it's roster, lacks insight.

Who's the pure finisher on Crosby's line? Dupuis or Kunitz? (Hint: neither) Yet, Crosby's averaging 2pts/game.

Hertl/Thornton/Burns are two playmakers and a converted defenseman, although Hertl's been scoring goals like a finisher.

There's no pure finisher on the Zetterberg/Datsyuk/Bertuzzi line either.

There's no formula to a good line, and most players inhabit traits of various player types, so it's not a matter of just going out and getting a "sniper" to cure all our ills.

I did not see this coming.

I felt they would be at least a .500 team and in the hunt for a play off spot, and have to admit the goaltending was the biggest question mark going into the season

Second biggest question was would Lavi keep a simplified system he had going at the end of last year.

I guess we got the answers.

I admit to thinking they would be in the hunt for a playoff spot, though.

- Marc D

Me too.

I didn't think they'd win the division, but I (erroneously) assumed with BSchenn and Couturier making some sort of leap and Laviolette having a full camp, etc., etc. .....I figured they'd be in the back half of the top 8 in the conference.

and as i said at the bottom of my post this team needs to play with the talent they have not who they can trade for... i agree with you a quick pull the trigger trade for a scorer will not help this team find themselves

I always thought he was more of a offensive guy, is he a two-way player or does his d game need work?

Laughton will make this team next season but Cousins is still two years away from being on the roster.

Neither of these guys are finishers though.

It's just a different take on the same set of circumstances -- it's equally valid as long as this team doesn't suddenly go on an offensive tear for the remainder of the season. Unless that happens, it'll continue to be a worthwhile point of debate in here.

That slick sniper type would be great, but did Brayden Schenn need to be a sniper to hit the net on that one play where he was in the slot and MAF was out of position?

If there is any sort of meetup with you miscreants, I hope someone has a custom "RYAB" Flyers jersey or I'll be sorely disappointed.

To me, it looked like somebody hacked his stick at the last second and changed the angle, then it went off Fleury's toe, then glanced off the post?

Hey guys, sorry if it's been posted, but Paul Stewart's blog has a video of the Bureau/Svoboda hit complete with the Mactavish fight. That was the only time I thought I saw someone die, and I hated Bureau when he was on the Flyers. I also forgot how MacT wouldn't stop, and actually ended up kneeing him. The NHL needs more guys like him.

I saw Craig MacTavish take a skate to the face. It was amazing.

Guy was crazy good for the that team. Such a veteran guy. Him and Joel Otto. Man.
