he's only 20 is right. he's stronger this yr and his first stride has improved along w/ his faceoffs. he looks more like hanzal than j staal at this point but, he's too young to draw conclusions.

I agree.. I'm not giving up on the kid, all I'm saying is MY expectations of him have been reeled in a bit.

I only want to move Timonen for him. I really appreciate everything he has done for the Flyers and he is one of my favorites. I would LOVE to see him win a cup somewhere.
- nastyflyergirl

Absolutely. I was a little too young to truly appreciate what Desjardins brought, and I never got see Howe play. As a fan of defenseman, he's been my favorite since the day we signed him, even over Pronger (not in talent, just in how much I liked him). So yes, if he wants to move on, I'd accomodate him.

The point is that there's no reason on earth to continue losing with the same ill-fitting roster.

Calgary could've kept Jay Bouuwmeester. But sometimes, you need to move players on.

- AllInForFlyers

Yes. They moved J-Bo. Not their entire defense. I never said not to move a veteran dman or 2, I said not to firesale them all and ice an all-AHL defense.

What scares me the most is this is NOT rocket science to figure out...But Homer and coaching staff seem to not grasp it.
- Buzzo

It does start to get a bit scary when a bunch of fans on a message board can see things that the management can not. Like the need to fire Laviolette in the offseason. Like the need to have a quality 4th line.

I know its just the 4th line and all but I really would love to see a 4th line here made up of true energy guys who can pot some goals. I would be thrilled to see Raffl or McGinn-Talbot-Rinaldo over Newberry or Rosehill-Hall-Rinaldo. but that is just me
- nastyflyergirl

At this point, it probably wouldn't even hurt to send the bottom 3-4 forwards down to ADK, and recall the rest of ADK's top-line.

So you're saying they're just a little pixie dust away from being a contender?

I think they are as well..

We'd still have Luke Schenn and Mark Streit and Gus. Moving Timonen, Coburn and Grossmann isn't breaking up anything that can't be replaced.

Really wrong. With respect, glad you are not the GM.

Timonen should definitely be traded at the deadline if the Flyers are out of contention and he wants one last shot at the Cup. It's will be much easier for teams that are tight against the cap to add his salary when there's only about six weeks left.

I actually couldn't find when the deadline is this season. But it must be in early March after the Olympics.

We're 1-7. We're last in the entire NHL.

They were 23-22-3 last year -- after a late surge that took place when they did ice an AHL defense.

They've scored 10 goals in eight games. They fired the coach three games into the season.

You're sure you don't want me as the GM? Because at 1-7, with the lone victory over a team that finished with the worst record in the NHL last year, how would it be worse?

Again: We're not breaking up the 1980s Edmonton Oilers, folks.

For all of Coburn's physical tools, he's got the hockey IQ of a turnip.

There's nothing wrong with moving Coburn or Grossmann if the return is high enough. Both players are around 30 and are as good as they will ever be.

Exactly. Rebuilding with maxed-out players on your roster means you've already capped how good you're going to be.

Wow.... Kronwall will be back before Hartnell. Take it to the bank. Hartnell got knocked out for a month at the hands of gravity.

Bingo. There is no defense to that. Look at the number of guys that were signed to big contracts and never finished (or even cam close to finishing) them out. That screams (to me at least) lack of confidence and/or indecisiveness.

Who was Carolina's #1 dman again? I always forget his name. Who was LA's top wing scorer? Are we talking Justin Williams "top-line" talent?
- jmatchett383

Carter ward and 1st year after lockout canes against poopty oilers don't count. Ward won the canes that cup.

not that i agree w/ everything posted there, but i'd rather post a guideline based on the "rules", not the "exceptions". for me, virtually every cup winner needs to have it together in goal, a top flight dman at or near his prime and a #1 center...add from there.
- isaiah520

ThAnk you for seeing (in general) what I was getting at. No blueprint is fool proof to win a cup but some are close. And god I'd wish people would stop bringing up canes. 1st year in a new league basically after the rule changing lockout and against dodo oilers. Actually if buffalo didn't lose 4 dmen for game 7 they'd have beaten canes

Bad hit, but kill me for saying this: I think Kronwall put himself in a bad spot when he stopped and tried to turn at the last second. I think Mcleod thought he was going to continue on and went to hit him on that assumption.

you know, as much as people like to pick on Rinaldo and the people who like Rinaldo saying all he does is hit and nothing else, fact is the kid along with McGinn, Raffl, and even Schenn, Talbot and Couturier play hard. this team can't score as it stands so personally I would give ice time to the players who bust it. I know its a viscious circle....lack of confidence leads to hesitation, trying to force bad passes being too perfect, etc but the leaders on this team have to play hard and lead. Say what you want about Crosby but its not talent alone that makes him one of the leagues elite players. He works his ass off
- nastyflyergirl

Yup. Rino had one of the better scoring chances last night. He's got a nice shot. If we're talking about holding players accountable for crappy play, the flip side is rewarding players for working hard, and so far that's Rinaldo, Raffl, McGinn and maybe a few more, not including Mason, of course.
