The monster has a really strong game tonight, came up big when he had to and your team really rallied around Kronwall, didnt start head hunting in retaliation.

The two goals were a bit weak but overall he got the job done in the end. Wings don't really have anyone to head hunt. Tootoo maybe but he hasn't really played that way since he came to the Wings or else he won't play at all.

No... not even close to that (yet). Gus has played great so far this season, but he still has to prove he can actually stay healthy for more than one month.

Nice road win tonight. This team needs more scoring from the 3rd & 4th lines. I still think the line combinations on the bottom 6 is terrible. Alfredsson has really picked his game up and is playing great. That 4th goal with Datsyuk was a beautiful setup.

Alfie needs to play with Datsyuk and Z more 5 on 5. They seem to work well since all 3 are smart skilled players that can finish each others plays.

I agree about the 3rd and 4th lines and would add the 2nd PP unit to that even if Franzen did score on that unit tonight.

Goalie controversy in Detroit ?

Gustavsson will make his share of great saves just because he's so big, but he's really not that good of a goalie when you put everything together. A career average of .901 in 117 games is a pretty good indication of that, not to mention the two softies he let in last night.

He's had a very nice little run over these last 3 games but it'll take a lot more than that to convince me that this level of performance is sustainable.

We're really gonna have some tough roster decisions when everyone is healthy. Emmerton will be waived without consequence. Samuelsson needs to be moved. Nyquist needs to be called back up. Who do we trade? Eaves, Tatar, or Tootoo? You don't move Tatar unless it's in a package with Quincey or Smith (+) to improve the defensive core (and I mean a proven Top-4 defenseman). And then, it's a difficult call between Eaves and Tootoo. I'm leaning towards Eaves, as he seems like the easier sell. He has a better pedigree, a lower cap hit, and is a more versatile player. In addition, I think Tootoo brings a dimension to the team that no one else does (sans Helm -- in a bigger and more important fashion... Abdelkader, too). At this point, Eaves is a less effective Miller-type. I'd like to see our healthy roster look something like this:

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Bertuzzi
Franzen-Weiss-Abdelkader
Nyquist-Andersson-Alfredsson
Miller-Helm-Cleary/Tootoo
Tatar... (Injuries..?)

Kronwall-Ericsson
Kindl-DeKeyser
Quincey-Lashoff
Smith

Howard-Gustavsson

I know some people on here have a hard-on for Tatar, but I don't think he has a future here. We have a plethora of potential Top 6 scoring forwards in the pipeline with more size, skill, and defense than he provides. And I don't see how he helps this club this season, especially if Babcock intends on keeping Alfie on the 3rd line with the way Abbie has sparked the 2nd line. But as I said, you can't move him unless it's in a package to meaningfully upgrade our defensive personnel. I guess we'll just see what happens...
