This thing turned into a troll meet pretty early on. I think I'm just gonna stay away from this and just say I hope the Flyers start finding ways to win, not to lose.

Relax...what is there to say that hasn't been said already?

"Let's up they show up tonight"
"I think the Flyers will play better, yada yada yada"

Just having a little fun with off topic chit.

Couple of big new additions to HockeyBuzz to announce.

Every Thursday, longtime NHL referee (and former NHL player for the Nordiques) Paul Stewart is doing an "inside refereeing" blog in the top center portion of this site. Stewey is one of the game's great colorful characters -- and was a pretty damn good ref -- and this should be a blast.

Every Wednesday, longtime Flyers defenseman Brad Marsh is doing "inside the life of an NHL player" blogs based both on his experience as someone who played over 1,000 games in the NHL and also his observations on the how the game has changed (or stayed the same) in the 20 years since his retirement.

Brad, like Paul, is one hell of a good guy with a huge heart and strong beliefs about the game. These should be entertaining reads and a huge upgrade to the depth and visibility of our center-space blogs.

reading through this thread, i have a hard time understanding why most of you even watch the flyers, much less make usernames and sign up for a hockey website. if you hate something sooo much, just watch something else. you're making yourselves miserable. get out there and enjoy life.

+1. I understand frustration with the poop start to the season, and I get that hockey conversation isn't always exchanging rosy outlooks on your team. It's gotten stale looking at every little thing that goes wrong as some grand organizational failure, though.

Sorry, I haven't actually watched it... I just felt like criticizing it instead. That's fair, right?

(I'll watch it right now...but if anything bad happens, if I become hooked on pop songs or bowtie metal, I'm blaming you.)

what about a regular tie?

Bill, is maatta ahead of schedule or really just plying until letang is back? how does he project in your opinion?
- isaiah520

He is a very promising combination of solid defensive instincts with some mobility and puck-moving upside. That said, if he stays in the NHL all year, he's probably going to "hit the wall" at some point this year. The learning curve is what is, and very few young D men prove immune from it.

If accountability went to that degree, then you'd end up with a pretty short bench during most of these games... I'm talking like being down to 4-5 forwards.

Reality is, coaches can really only afford to 'send a message' to 1-3 forwards at a time before it really hampers the team's ability to compete on the ice. With a 4th-line like this team has, you can't really afford to bench more than 1 guy at a time since Rinaldo is the only guy they seem willing to bump up the lineup.

And... if you gave most coaches a choice between 2-points in the standings versus sending a message, they'd privately go with the former each and every time, since they know their job security is directly linked to wins.

Maintaining accountability is easier said than done.

when did THAT become a bare minimum? McGinn has scored all of his goals in areas that most other guys not named schenn or simmonds have avoided.

I agree. Nothing wrong with fair, honest and objective criticism. There's definitely room for that at this juncture. But there are also positives to be recognized and discussed. But so much is made out of nothing or invented. Such as the Flyers took shortcuts because they signed a couple of veterans. Or the roster stinks, or the numerous players that are scapegoated. Frustration and disapointment are understandable. But it's taken far deeper then that.

Exactly. Think through the season so far and see if you can recall how many times Giroux has actually been around the net, or in the slot? Same with Voracek. They've both had some decent chances, but for the most part, both players have played a perimeter game.

We've gone through what they need to do or, on the flip side, need to stop doing what they've been doing in previous games ad nauseam. What I really enjoy is reading your insight on the infrastructure of this team. Perhaps you could enlighten us with your self proclaimed expertise on the topic of the Salary Cap?

I think tonights the night. If the Flyers cant find the emotion and passion to play against their rivals their done. No excuses about systems, camps, coaches, confidence, etc. This is where you prove your professionalism, your commitment and your manhood.

My knowledge of the Salary cap is not self proclaimed. But my knowledge of the CBA and Salary cap is proven and supported by my numerous posts on the subject over the course of the Cap being instituted since 2005. If you care to challenge my knowledge of the Cap, I'm perfectly willing to discuss it with you. You might find that youarewrong.

I saw a fabulous movie last night about a guy who spends the entire year in Antarctica and films it, using cameras he modified to withstand -60 degree temps and take time lapse photos. Incredible film, highly recommended.

Of course there was the obligatory scene with the Adelie Penguins cavorting and doing cute things. The film maker who is from New Zealand said in his cute accent,
"penguins have a similar intelligence to chickens". It was pretty funny in context.

That is my troll for the day. The "Crosby Sucks" chants have not been working out too well.

You have to figure that he's going to break out at some point. Why not tonight? He's gotten up for games against the Pens before. Hopefully the rivalry brings out some lifted emotions for the game.
