i suppose that might work if it's just laughton unless laugthon can have some offense in the NHL (then he has more value than cooter)

Holmgren traded the equivalent 4 1sts for Pronger who was a rental. That's why Holmgren had to back up the brinks truck for Pronger and give him that ridiculous 7 year contract.

Pronger was under no obligation to stay past that first year.

He has no problem overpaying for Rentals if he thinks he can sign them long term.

In many ways that Pronger deal set back the team years.

The Ducks had to be giddy with the return they got from a player who they had no hope of resigning.

Are you kidding me! Getting Pronger signed to a deal for under 5M on the Cap was a great contract.

The only thing that set the team back was Pronger getting injured.

Its Flyers-Pens; if that doesn't get everyone's heart pumping for a good ole fashion blood bath they need to get the hell out of the way!!

I kicked in the face of my kids jack-o-lantern today because of the Flyers orange it was sporting.

If you add enough dummy years at the end of a contract you can make any contract look good on the cap. He had multiple years at the end of the contract where he was to make 575,000/yr and ends at the age of 42. His real salary was north of $7 mill/yr.

There's a reason these type of contracts were outlawed. Kovalchuk had a great contract until the league determined that having 4 years at the end at minimum wage until age 44 was not something they wanted to encourage.

Pronger got the money he wanted and Holmgren thought he had the cap circumvention issue worked out.

The Flyers were going to pay him nearly $30 million over 4 years which by far blows away any contract on a per year basis that he had ever played for.
