Leafs gave up a 3rd line winger, backup goaltender and a pick...

The Oilers couldn't match/better that???

- Fruitcakenipple

I think the kings and leafs brass are both happy with the trade. Lombardi didn't want to give up bernier but had too, the leafs didn't want to get rid of frattin and scrivens but had too in order to get the guy they wanted. MacTavish doesn't want to give up anuthing that other teams want in order to improve his club and it will hold the club back for a few more years. I may be alone on this but I think he already got fleeced in the one deal he made with St.Louis where he moved a high end prospect and a good pick for a winger who's dime a dozen and doesn't help the team at all.

Eberle is about a .8 ppg player. That is great at 23 years old, but don't believe the ridiculous amount of Oilers hype. The guys isn't untouchable and definitely doesn't deserve a HUGE return.

Reimer has proven he can be a starter. Name me another legitimate starter that might be available (obviously Miller), now consider cost and age and contract status.

I don't see why the Leafs have to throw in 2 other major assets?

Besides, I am not so sure I want the Leafs to trade Reimer. With the GLARING holes in team defense, and the big penalty numbers, It seems to me that keeping both goalies might be a good idea.

The Oilers have to overpay, or they have to settle for a lesser goalie somewhere else. Given that they are still such a young team, I would suggest that they look for an upgrade that won't cost them any good young assets.

- Aetherial

this is what the oilers should do in my opinion also.... but i don;t think management ownership or the fanbase is prepared to patient enough to take that course.

Pretty much agree. Don't see the point of making a move unless as part of a package to get an elite #1 centre or top two defenseman.

reimer + gardiner + kulemin = eberle +3rd
- big_dion

While eberle is a huge upgrade on offence Edmonton is dealing from a position of weakness with the desperation for a goalie and including the fact that Toronto shouldn't give up so many nhl assets including one of the goalies that are the only reason the Leafs are 6-1, I would make Edmonton pay more or leave them waiting in the wind.

Eberle, Nurse

For

Reimer, Gardiner, Kulemin, AHL prospect (whoever Eakins wants) and a conditional pick. (*2015 1st if Kulemin walks, 2nd otherwise).

It is a bad deal for Edmonton in so many ways but if they want to take a young stud NHL d-man, a starting goalie and a replacement NHL winger then I would want something other than Eberle. Maybe I'm greedy but we are in no hurry to make that deal otherwise.

Lupul is a beast right now. Has picked up where he left off late last season. Love having a guy on the team again that can go out there and say "ok time to get poop done" and then does it.

If he stays healthy, does Hockey Canada take a good look at him for Sochi?

yeah perron is just another smallish winger( although he plays the biggest out of any of them) they need more balance in the lineup . it isn;t eakins fault he doesn;t have the pieces he needs... not mac t's fault yet either.... takes time... hold on oil country. long ride

If EDM is going to move one of their young guns up front, it's going to be Yakupov. Eberle is exactly the kind of player you DON'T trade...

You know what the Oilers need? And I made this suggestion in the offseason before we acquired them - Bolland and Clarkson

Some of the moves he pulled last night were just awesome. Loops has some good hands and can dangle with the best of them!

They offered Clarkson more coin according to some but he wanted to play for the Leafs..
Bolland would have involved giving up picks/prospects and it's apparent the Oilers want nothing to do with that..

He bangs pornstars during intermissions. Doesn't need Sochi for tail. I was watching the jays game when they were in Anaheim this season and the cameraman focused in on 3 mint blondes and didn't notice Lupul sitting in the middle.

Fair enough but you get the point leafs don't need to give up 3 NHL assets for an Eberle.

Of course.

Though Eberle is a great player, he's not the kind of player we specifically need right now. Hey, if we could get him, I'd be happy about it. But for us to give up so many bargaining chips to acquire a player that wouldn't even address our current deficiencies, makes very little sense.
