Leafs gave up a 3rd line winger, backup goaltender and a pick...

The Oilers couldn't match/better that???

- Fruitcakenipple

Give credit to Nonis who had a good goalie last year but decided to make a move anyway. Oilers didn't know what they had in DD last year. He wasn't horrible and they HOPED he'd be better. They're paying the price now.

No reason for Leafs to make any trade - Reimer or Gardiner - right now. Wait and see what things look like when Clarkson, Kuli, etc get back.

truth is, oilers fans deserve more than just a first pick and a poop season.

sometimes you gotta give to get, im not saying TO is the only trading partner...but i sure as hell woudlnt go the bryzgalov route!

- big_dion

More or less agree, though I think they've reached a point where they need to start finding some real success at this point. Cant stand pat and expect wins to come your way on their own. Leafs and Oilers could make for interesting trade partners...

Leafs should hold their course.

All good right now, even being outshot I thought they played well last night, a couple bad give always but that happens every NHL game IMO

Oh I fully agree, but if Nonis can take advantage of a desperate MacTavish over the course of the season, you pull the trigger all day. Not many teams can say that they are confident in both their tenders as starters right now, though many would argue that Carlyle isnt as confident with Reimer as he is with Bernier.

And what happens when Fraser is back? Is Carlyle going to continue to ice Rielly/Franson/Gardiner all at once? Not so sure about that tbh.

The Leafs are not desparate to make a trade right now for anything. That is not to say that there isn't a lot of room for improvement. Clearly there is.

Edmonton is hurting, especially in goal, but that is not the only problem there.

When one team is a lot more motivated to trade than the other team, then one of two things happens... a bad trade, or no trade.

Lupul is a beast right now. Has picked up where he left off late last season. Love having a guy on the team again that can go out there and say "ok time to get poop done" and then does it.

Eberle is about a .8 ppg player. That is great at 23 years old, but don't believe the ridiculous amount of Oilers hype. The guys isn't untouchable and definitely doesn't deserve a HUGE return.

Reimer has proven he can be a starter. Name me another legitimate starter that might be available (obviously Miller), now consider cost and age and contract status.

I don't see why the Leafs have to throw in 2 other major assets?

Besides, I am not so sure I want the Leafs to trade Reimer. With the GLARING holes in team defense, and the big penalty numbers, It seems to me that keeping both goalies might be a good idea.

The Oilers have to overpay, or they have to settle for a lesser goalie somewhere else. Given that they are still such a young team, I would suggest that they look for an upgrade that won't cost them any good young assets.

another good reason to keep both goalies, is that you can keep the opposing teams guessing as to who is going to start. Since both are good, but have very different styles, the other teams have to spend time studying both, and spend less time focusing on plays that exploit one or the others weaknesses.
