One other positive thing I've noticed is Giroux's puck pursuit. The points might not be there, and he may be pressing, but his puck pusuit is very impressive. If he loses the puck, 7 times out of 10, he's able to get it back. He's also able to outwork most players for a loose puck. It's not what he's paid to do, but it's definitely nice to see the work.

I was impressed with the ability to lose 35 out of 50 faceoffs last night. That's hard to do.

Wasn't Hall supposed to be the guy helping Giroux by taking and winning faceoffs? What happened to that theory? I'm pretty sure we were told that was one of the reasons it was important that he was on the team.

Hard for Hall to take a draw, when they don't have a 4th line. Giroux, Schenn, and Couturier took every faceoff besides one.

hall is the 4th line center, giroux is the 1st line center. very few instances when they're on the ice together so i'm not sure how you think hall was going to be able to help giroux win his faceoffs

The idea was that in PK and defensive situations you would see Hall out there.. lightening the load on Giroux a bit.

i thought that coburn had his worst game of the season last night on the game tying goal he was just standing there not covering anyone... on the game winning goal he had him right behinfd the net had him zoned out...
- flyer186

Those were two mistakes, and big ones for sure. But I thought he was strong for two-plus periods. Unfortunately, sometimes with Coburn, he will make some real good plays and then a couple real bad ones.

it was ridiculous, the bad coverage, the missed shot attempts,

I really wonder what happens when Berube's record becomes 2-10 or something similar?

I feel the same way about B-Schenn, to me at times, it looks as though he isn't even trying. Just coasts into corners with no heart or that pitbull style of play i've heard referenced to him so often. However, I think I like him at center vs. wing. What have you guys seen so far?
- iroc4me2

I think that B Schenn has been one of the better forwards for the team this Season.

I have never seen a team that is so bad at recovering from mistakes. Other teams turn the puck over and recover in to position in time to mitigate the mistake. This team makes a turnover and it seems like every player loses his mind.

But again, the losing % on faceoffs means they are chasing the game, plus they missed the net on many shot attempts again, and defensive zone coverage is one thing, but in front of your own net?

they are still winless if not for Mason

I wish he would show the same intensity in the defensive zone.

Its actually quite simple, teams do it all the time. When you have a d zone faceoff in the 3rd period of a game you are leading, you put a 2nd center on the line for the faceoff.

So if they were losing before "tuning out the coach" then what now?

scoring would improve w/ better passing and more forwards playing in the hard areas of the ice around the crease. for all of the criticisms of b Schenn, he is not a perimeter plyr...

I can't even see what that would do, really, as long as the old timer is still in the locker room, in the mix, too involved, etc

I didn't watch the whole game very closely but what I did see in the 2nd & 3rd periods looked like a lot of perimeter play in the o-zone and sitting back trying not to lose in the d-zone. Better than the fire drills I've seen but not fighting for ice by any means.

That's not what i was saying. The Flyers, in the past have had Giroux take important faceoffs even when his line was not out on the ice because he's the only player on the roster who has a 50% or better faceoff winning percentage (other than hall). Think short handed for instance. Win the faceoff, clear the zone, get off the ice.

Highly unlikely.

Holmgren might lose his job at some point this season, but it's not going to be this week.
