That's another problem, the worse they get, the worse the situation gets, causes them to do harsh decisions without thinking, the composure level is really low I'm sure, & if Pittsburgh beats them Thursday they will be 1-7 with I think a week off to "stew" in it?
Teams that are winning, or doing well, wouldn't care to take a player off our hands if they don't require a change.

- puckhead17

It'll be piecemeal -- maybe; this team has a way of making moves in a flurry -- but really, what I'm saying is no different than what other bad teams have done in overhauling their rosters.

Calgary's opening-night roster from last year to this year is radically different. So is Tampa Bay's, for example.

There will be turnover; there always is. The question is this: Do you accept a rebuild, or do you cash in your assets for older players, a different mix, and try to win?

The last time the Flyers looked like this, they moved Joni Pitkanen for Jason Smith and Joffrey Lupul. Peter Forsberg for Ryan Parent and Scottie Upshall. Stuff like that.

What I'm saying only sounds radical if you think that there is a core of players on this team that are untouchable.

What the Flyers have proved repeatedly is that when they're losing, nobody's untouchable. That's all I'm saying -- and all of it done in a salary-cap system, with the Flyers spending to the cap every season, as they always do.

No, it isn't. Schenn was in the box for fighting during the Flyers only penalty kill of the night. Do some basic research before jumping to conclusions.

1st Period
09:13 PHI L. Schenn Fighting (maj) against Z. Kassian
09:13 VAN Z. Kassian Fighting (maj) against L. Schenn
13:26 PHI N. Grossmann Hooking against D. Sedin
2nd Period
12:15 VAN C. Higgins Hooking against M. Talbot
3rd Period
11:39 VAN K. Bieksa Elbowing against S. Couturier

So when you make a mistake I have to double check all your other posts to see if you corrected it somewhere? Get lost.

he did have some breakout passes & that is his strength, but he's missing the net an awful lot, not that he's the only one, (he's not), but that whole situation, again, is because Homer under valued Matt Carle, or he wouldn't even be here
- puckhead17

He does need to do a better job of getting his shots on net. I think there was a good chance for a goal at the end of the 1st period last night but he blasted his shot to the right of the net.

I KNEW someone was gonna bring that up. That play happens 40 times a game for every team, and rarely (if ever) is the defending center supposed to be covering the opposing center. they were not "stride for stride" at the blue line. The defensemen were doing their jobs, giving Mason 2 places to pass the puck. It's not Giroux's job to cover Kesler all the way to his opposing goal line on a dump-in.

As for Kesler skating hard, he's supposed to as a forechecker. Giroux would also were he forechecking. Giroux's job on that play is the give the defenseman a chance at an outlet pass, which is what Kesler would do were their roles reversed.

- jmatchett383

He was absolutely stride for stride to the blue line... Kessler sees Mason leave the net and heads straight towards it.. So did Giroux.. except he stopped skating before the top of the circle. Even as the puck bounces he doesnt lift a foot. Total fluke goal, but there was zero effort given there. When your goalie leave his net to play the puck up to a defender and winger, you have to at least make an effort to get a bit lower. Its a pet peeve of mine to be honest. I play center, and anytime my goalie leaves the net I head between the hashmarks.

I don't know what you're talking about.

We're just 2-3 more overpaid declining players, a few more ex-Team Canada U20 members, a well-timed RFA offer sheet, another coaching change, and a couple of traded captains/franchise saviors away from the Cup.

I can feel it!!

Grossmann also didn't have any PK time last night. Obviously not trusted with PK time.

So it's Giroux's job to stay stride-for-stride with every center every time there's a dump in? No matter how deep into the zone that 1 player goes? So when the goalie gives it to the defenseman, or leaves it for one, he's behind the play already?

I agree with you (in bold)
some of the deals you mention were really tough to remember, I really wonder how bad things will get before the game plan changes (again).

I'll forget all about the lost points against the Canucks if they show up tomorrow and find a bit of identity. I really don't want a replay of 2007 where the Pens are skating to the bench laughing at us as they blow us away in our own rink.

The Canucks game is over.

I think this Pens game looms large and will speak volumes for where this team is really headed the rest of the season. If they get humiliated and show no guts against the Penguins be ready for something desperate to happen.

exactly!! not stride for stride...all he needs to do is be close enough to disrupt the play or take a penalty that prevents a goal if he has to

He can fall back on his wind fall from the law suit so I'm not worried about him. He'll be comfortable. He'll be coaching the Panthers by January.

I gave up on Laviolette as a coach here when we went 4-1 up on the Pens last season, and then managed to lose 4-5.

Not at all. He's far from it. I'm just wondering why you don't want to blame the 2 defenseman for being nowhere near the play at all. I've also played for years. I don't skate like crazy every time there's a dump-in to my zone because there may be a crazy fluke bounce. I asses the play as best as I can, expect my goalie to either wrap the puck up the boards or leave it for a defenseman, and try to get in a position for an easy outlet pass.

But sue, it's 1000% Giroux's fault.

No, management, you think Ed will be golfing & handing Homer a cold one while laughing?

Remember his face at the Berube presser?

I see him getting more pissed by the day

See what I'm saying, folks? It's the first bolded thought that inevitably leads to the second. Because they're both true.

If this squad finishes where they are now...nothing they do should surprise anyone.

He cant get caught coasting in his own end. Plain and simple. It happened twice last night and goals were scored both times. I dont expect him to glue himself to a guy, but he needs to cover that man.. turnovers happen. Bad bounces happen. Giroux gliding in towards his man at the net isnt getting it done. Plain and simple.

Timonen went to the end boards for the pass.. thats part of their breakout.. usually the center goes deep, circles around, comes up with speed and takes a breakout pass from the d-man. Giroux let his man get away from him... the Flyers got a bad bounce and it ended up in the net.

PS: You are hilarious.
