Cannot seriously believe the hate for Simmonds. This guy leaves it out on the ice every single shift.
- KGBflyers10

Very true, he leaves his skill on the bench and when on the ice just kind of puts along

Vanek is a rental almost certain to leave Buffalo. I think his trade value is somewhat lower than people think.

What do you think it would take?

i'm a big simmonds fan - but he has been just as horrid to watch as the rest of these guys. i hope they don't deal him now because at his age, with his contract, he is going to be a steal for many years to come. In fact - the last two seasons wayne has outperformed all expectations - which has not been the case for others brought over in the carts/richie deals.

Other then maybe a few seconds at the end of a PK, to try and take advantage of the situation, Vanek doesn't play on the PK. He'd be a nice player to add. But he's not the solution to this team's issues.
- MJL

Oh I must be mistaken. When I'm sitting at the game watching vanek on the pk for more than the last few seconds of pp. You forget I live in buffalo and actually go to the games. I didn't say he plays every pk but they do use him from time to time. And scoring 30 to 40 goals 10 to 15 pp goals isnt needed on this team? Really? Oh yeah I forgot, you think they will home out of it. They will turn it around. At what point are you going to admit this theory isn't going to happen? 10 , 15, 30, 45, games into this season? Tsking into account last year and preseason and last 2 exits from playoffs how long?

No, they don't use him from time to time on the PK. You are mistaken. Other then as I said previously, when they put him out at the end of a kill for a handful of seconds. As for the rest of the post. No comment.

Plain and simple not enough skill on this team, too many grinders and bangers on offense and D. I know i'm stating the obvious but this team needs yet another shakeup. Homer needs to be fired, he has done a lot of good for the franchise but I think he has out smarted himself. The JVR for Luke Schenn trade looks downright terrible right now its embarrassing. I'm sick and tired of watching this team lose and watching every piece they have traded away laugh in their face! This is a bad team that is not going to magically turn around anytime soon. They need 5 wins in a row just to get to .500 which i don't see happening anytime soon.

I love my Flyers but its pretty disappointing to already look forward to next season 7 games in.

Fine. I will explain in more depth for you. 1st off, I'm not mistaken. I know you have this complex that you NEED to be right. Again i live here and go to many games and I see with my 2 eyes vanek play the god damn pk for more than the last few seconds. Their has always been an issue of why vanek doesn't get more ice time in buffalo. Because he's has made an effort to become defensively responsible the last couple of years they have used him from time to time on pk. Again to the original point from other poster I say he isn't a liability on d and used the fact that they occasionally use him on pk to make that point. And as to your no comment on the rest of my previous post how many people have stated about scoring in tonights blog? If we got vanek he would lead us in GOALS until the day he left.

regardless of his rental status, he would still cost a fairly decent price i think. i doubt a young rebuilding team would have any interest in guys like talbot or hartnell. in order to make his acquisition worth it, hed have to be resigned, which will definitely not be cheap.

basically i just dont see the assets and salary cap commitment to a guy like vanek being the answer for you guys. you need this offense to come internally, from guys already there playing better.

I thought Streit played well, but needs to get those shots on net. Agree/disagree?

All you have to do is go to NHL.com and look at the official stats for Vanek. Since you want to argue, I'll give them to you.

11/12 78 GP SH TOI 22:14 SH TOI/G 0:17
12/13 38 GP SH TOI 7:42 SH TOI/G 0:12
13/14 8 GP SH TOI 0:27 SH TOI/G 0:03

If you look at Jake Voracek's SH TOI totals, you'd see the same thing. As he is often put out at the very tail end of a kill, same as Vanek is. So if your argument is that Vanek is used on the PK to show that he's a good defensive player, that's not a solid argument. And I never stated that Vanek wouldn't lead the Flyers in goals scored, if he was brought in here.

Agree. He had one blast from the middle that he missed the net on that was a good chance.

How the (frank) does this happen? Is it that the team identity was bad goaltending, and now they have a good one, they have lost themselves?
