Don't you think they were just simply outplayed in the third?
- strongsupporter

Agreed. It's not like van isn't a good team. No problem with the last goal. Mason makes a great save and kesler makes a great play. Grossmann was all over him. Gotta give credit to van also

I would be happy with 5 new D men
- vejim

Man, don't say that -- hell, you can't even pull one guy out that lineup that isn't winning anything without somebody telling you how great they're playing.

Pulling five guys out, somebody would tell you that we're benching Norris Trophy winners and we just don't understand hockey.

So you mean to tell me if McGinn keeps this play up you would automatically move him down a line or two just because Hartnell is back? That is just the dumbest thing I've heard. It makes no sense.
.
You might be right that he isn't a top line player, but you could also be wrong. If his play continues he should stay where he is.

- LJF

No, I'm saying that McGinn isn't going to keep scoring at this rate. And isn't capable of playing on an NHL 1st line over the long haul. Put the kid in the best spot for him. He's doing a great job filling in. And leave him there as long as there are injuries. Because who else do you have? And he'sproducing. But once they get healthy and get Lecavalier and Hartnell back. McGinn doesn't belong on the top line.

I agree with the other poster who is saying everyone matters.

Guys like Raffl, which this team seems to love to employ are just a body out there.

You dont get away with just "being good enough" in this league. You need guys that excel in certain parts of their game, and contribute positively. Not guys you just throw out there and they dont hurt you.

In reality, lets look at the talent employed by the team from top to bottom.
1.Giroux
2. Voracek/Lecav
3. Read
4. Aging Timonen

Throw in Streit and bSchenn if you wish.

Thats the actual real creative talent they are rolling with. I expected them to miss this year, but not be this bad. Although if you look at it, its not crazy suprising.

schenn has shown me very little overall since he's been here.

I think it's almost guaranteed that Homer will swing a MAJOR deal during the week after the Pens game.
- FlyerGuy

That Pens game will say a lot.

Pittsburgh always had a way of waking this crew up. I could see them coming out flat, or actually getting into the game emotionally and a little dirty/chippy.

I think it determines if a deal is made. I hope they finally unleash, and stop with this BS. Play with emotion, and not fear which is what I see.

I agree. But I think most of us thought the current group of forwards knew how to put the puck into the net. Who knew they would forget that part of hockey

they had a guy in the making, and while not a sniper, but more in the mold of power forward who can score in jvr. they dumped him for schenn. who's now our 6th dman.

i do agree that others need to step up, but as far as this is concerned, that shouldnt come as a surprise. he is an 8 million dollar a year superstar center. those kinds of guys are supposed to be able to not only excel with the target on their back, but make those around them better. i understand down stretches happen, and you cant discount the fact that the injury may be causing a slow start. but if giroux is the caliber people allege, the target thing can only fly so far
- stayinthefnnet

He is on a rough patch, so dont take this to be too much.

However it wouldnt be the first time in recent history this organization put too much on a player's shoulder only to realise they are not as good as hype indicated.

See Richards, and Carter. Giroux is a good player, but he needs help.

What will determine if a deal is made, is having another team willing to deal. And offering a deal that the Flyers feel helps them. The odds of that happening this time of year, is pretty low. Not impossible, but not likely. Maybe something with another team that is struggling.

Dead on.

I'd be okay with him as a 3rd line winger, which at this point is where he is trending.

I'm not undervaluing anything. Rosehill in the lineup had zero to do with the loss tonight. If you're saying that you'd rather have McGinn or Raffl in the lineup, over Rosehill. I agree whole heartedly. Put Rosehill in the 13th forward role. And the Flyers forwards ice times were not out of the norm. Really the only forward who played a disproportionate amount of minutes was McGinn.
- MJL

It's not just Rosehill. It was a reluctance to play the entire 4th line. They played less than 13 of 180 minutes in the game. That's not sustainable and poor use of your assets, especially when you were winning most of the game.

It sickens me to see the Sharks can score more in one game than the Flyers can in multiple games.

Man, don't get me started. I'd drive any player on this roster anywhere in North America, to their new team, if it means getting a straight-up scorer into that lineup.

true, Giroux meet Malkin and Crosby. G should try to get some tape on Malkin and Crosby to see how a 8 mil player does his business. G needs to wake up and get going. Don't talk about not having confidence, go out and make poop happen
- bigmookalookie

Except g isn't that good. He's a little overrated in Philly. Not to say he csnt dominate at times and for stretches but it's becoming very very appearant that that he's not in the same stratosphere as Crosby malkin. He's not going to carry team on his back for long stretches.

B Schenn has been one of the better forwards on the team this Season.

Yes, I agree. The 4th line did not play a shift in the 3rd period. That is not a sustainable rotation over the course of an 82 game Season.

It's not common place, and in my opinion he shouldn't be playing that much. He should be the 13th forward. But with that being said, is Rosehill in the lineup a legitimate reason for why they lost the game tonight? Or for why they're 1-6?
- MJL

One could argue that Berube feared that rosehill or rinaldo would take a bad penalty and give Vancouver a pp. Obviously he doesn't want that happening so he eliminated that chance by not playing the 4thb line in the 3rd period. Which caused the top 3 lines to be overplayed and worn out, thereby allowing softer defensive coverages, which led to the tying and winning goals by Vancouver. I know rosehill has been a bit of a scapegoat, but if the coach has faith in all 4 lines, which he apparantly doesn't, the team wouldng have ran out of gas at the end. So, at least for thisngame, yes; rosehill bbeing in the lineup is a legitimate reason for why they lost the game.

G needs another star to get him going. He cant carry a team by himself but with another top tier player I can see G doing well. If G wanted to get paid like a top tier guy he needs to act like on as well.

Who thought that New York defensemen would forget how to defend (-31) ?

Remember Washington last year. Ovie was a bum at this time in the year and then he went on to be a trophy winner.

The fact the season from hell 06-07, has netted the Flyers a 6th dman is ridiculously comical.
