The shift early in the season where you outlined Streit losing a foot race, then being manhandled had me laughing hysterically... Then reality set in that I had to watch four more years of it, and all of a sudden it wasn't quite as funny.
- PLindbergh31

It's probably pretty obvious to you all now, but I have never hated a move like I hate the Streit signing before. I felt better watching Richie/Gagne hoist the Cup and watching Bob win the Vezina.

It's so encapsulates everything that's wrong with how this team has been managed since the mid-90's, and falls so predictably in the pattern we've seen from the Flyers post-cap of bringing in a guy who we all know they'll be moving heaven and earth to get rid of before the contract is up.

Every time I see Streit out there getting beat to pucks, getting tossed around like a rag doll, fumbling clearing attempts, not hitting the tape on a pass, shooting into a shin protector... it makes me want to tear my hair out.

Would you have preferred them to bring in a top six winger rather then Vinnie and continue to allow B Schenn and Couts develop as the 2nd and third line centers?

I know I would have.

- Marc D

That's what I wanted -- though, that being said, Vincent Lecavalier is a good player at 2C, and if Schenn does develop into a 50-60 point LW, it's less of an issue.

I will be happy if he starts contributing on the PP.

Get some shots through to the net, set up some rebound goals.

That is my expectation from the guy.

In Detroit his shot was getting blocked more often then not on the PP.
That has to get better.

- Marc D

For the money he's being paid, I expect the guy to be competent in his own end. I've seen no indication that he's capable of that so far.

JVR was praised by the Organization for remaining around the team and training in the off season.

What? You don't like Mark Streit as a Flyer? Why, next thing you know, someone's going to accuse me of not being a member of the Andrej Meszaros Fan Club!

He had some injuries at bad times is the way I recall it.

And I think he was questioned at some point on the extra year at UNH vs playing pro.

But not sure lazy was ever an accusation I heard.

- Marc D

I know the Flyers weren't completely happy with him playing at UNH. They would have preferred him going to junior but they talked it out and he made a commitment to the college and the Flyers backed him. The second year at UNH went pretty much the same way.
He worked out here every summer and the team lauded him for his effort and fitness every summer at camp.
I don't want to continue to address this as the poster was just jumping on here completely uninformed. I don't see him following up.

This really has zero relevance to the Flyers, because I have problem with analogies (and stats and facts and links and quotes) if they don't suit my purpose.

Any guesses on how Streit will look 3 years from now?

What factual information can you provide that backs up that Briere refused to waive his NMC? Briere didn't force the Flyers to do anything.
- MJL

Really? You were the same way with Bryzgalov for 2 years. I posted multiple articles about his teammates saying how bad he was in the lockeroom and how he wasn't a good team mate. Different media outlets posted similar stories including some from the flyers. There's a whole slew of evidence that I don't have time to get into. Yet you refused to believe any of it unless Ed Snider called you personally as everyone had an "agenda" and was out to smear his name. You only stopped defending Bryz when he got bought out.

Ed Snider isn't going to call you. Sometimes you have to look at all available evidence and admit that maybe just once there's enough circumstantial evidence to connect the dots.

Do you think Holmgren preferred to spend an additional $3 mill in Comcast money & a precious compliance buyout because he couldn't bear losing his BFF Briere for another 3 weeks?

What I have a problem with is poor analogies that aren't at all representative of what goes on with a pro sports team. B. Schenn wasn't demoted due to the signing of Lecavalier. He was moves to a different position, one that he might be better suited for. And he has gotten plenty of ice time.
