Lappy, Pronger, Voracek, Simmonds, Talbot, Mason (so far) off the top of my head. - jmatchett383
Pronger and Lappy, as much as we love them, were much better in the past.
Voracek, Simmonds and Mason I don't think you can count as "signings".
Talbot, at least for the 1st-season, might be one of the few.
UFA has been pretty unkind to Homer... either he ends up with albatross contracts, 1-year experiments, or misses out on his guys entirely. Somebody should probably pull the plug on all of his phones come July 1. |

That's a pretty short list for the turnover the Flyers have had. That includes Pronger who was only able to serve 1 year of a 7 year contract.
Starting with the 2006-2007 season and ending with the 2016-2017 season, the Flyers will have spent every year except 1 with at least one aging bruising defenseman signed to a big money contract on LTIR except 1 year. Which year was it? |

Patty Marleau and Dion Phaneuf on retirement contracts are already in the works, sorry. Don't forget Steve Mason's 8-year extension that he'll sign while the bottom hasn't fallen out yet... then he'll subsequently forget how to stop pucks. |

The plug should have been pulled when Laviolette was fired. Of course the Flyers are doing things ass backwards. Holmgren still in place at the deadline he makes some dreadful moves on his way out the door and Hextall has a pile of poop to clean up, to go with a coach he didn't hire. |

Briere wasn't better than he was in Buffalo... and he missed a lot of time due to injury... and he was bought out with 2-years left to go... so hard to put that fully in the win column.
Too soon to judge Emery for this season, but his getting hurt pretty much ushered in the Michael Leighton era. Speaking of Leighton, he might actually be a legitimate "better than his last team" player.
Hartnell and Kimmo we had to give assets for. There was no open market for them.
Vinny... too soon to say, but the injuries have already started. He's a good player when he's healthy... but... |

Nonsense. Pronger's point totals were up in Philadelphia compared to his old team (Anaheim) discounting the Cup year. Also, he had that Niedermayer guy helping him carry the load in Anaheim. He played primarily with Matt Carle here.
Lappy actually had higher point outputs here than in his last 2 seasons in Colorado, but that's not why the Flyers got him. No matter where he played, he was exactly the same kind of player on the Flyers that he was during his Avs days.
If you want to argue "in the past" then yes, Pronger's best season was his Hart season. He just said, "his old team" so I was comparing them solely to the teams (and seasons) they'd played with their team prior to the Flyers. |

i didn't write it never happens just that it seems a rarity around here. i would contest 1/2 that list. lappy was a grinder, voracek and talbot couldn't hit water if they fell out of a boat and pronger, while pretty good here, was not better here than he was previously. |

They were still great, cornerstone signings at the time.
Unfortunately, they were both given extensions that pay them too much money for their current levels of performance. |

Like I said, he was just as good here as he was in Anahaiem, especially in the 2 seasons preceeding him coming here. Same with Lappy, he did the same role here the same way he had in Colorado the 2 seaons prior. Talbot went from being a healthy scratch to a 19-goal scorer. Voracek has improved steadily since we acquired him (OH NO, 6 GAMES WITHOUT A GOAL!).
Do you expect Pronger to win another Hart, Lappy to become a 30-goal scorer, and Talbot to score 20 playoff goals? Those guys were brought on to play a specific role, and did exactly what they were expected to based on their track records leading up to their acquisition. |

Out of curiosity, why do you feel that way, that he would be relieved after that game specifically?
Most of us (MOST) were applauding his offseason signings (some not to much on Streit), and now that we got off to a bad start, and Lavi's gone to take the blame, it's Homer's fault...again. |

Not firing Laviolette in April should be a firable offense as a GM. The stories of what (didn't) happen in training camp keep getting worse.
Hextall's not going to come in and be perfect, though. No GM is. |
