Players like Oshie are more common than players like Backes, even if Oshie is the better pure offensive player and not a softie himself.
- Nucker101

I'll admit, the size difference is likely what makes them seem so different. Backes is better at controlling play than Oshie, but when you're 6'3 221, you better damn well be!

I don't want van city to burn down again

- Killbot460

It'a already been discussed and decided that ext time we're all travelling to another random NHL city and burning it down instead.

Backes' offense isn't quite as good as I think you think it is. Don't get me wrong, he's elite on defense and is a beauty in front of the net and in the corners, but beyond that, his passing ability is somewhat lacking and his shot isn't what I'd call a strength. He doesn't have very deft hands, either. Do you know who plays with Backes in almost every situation and has for the past 2.5 years? TJ Oshie.
- MaximumBone

i'd personally rather have oshie on the rangers over backes, but that's because he already have a guy like oshie in callahan on the team and need that extra offense.

i could see a guy like backes being a great fit on the oilers though who need a top 6 forward that is excellent defensively, tough as a rock, and has veteran leadership to mentor the youth.

no chance. oilers don't want lack and edler for yak straight up is a rip off. if you want to shake up the canucks, pay attention to this.

edler for helm, smith, nyquist. wings would turn him into a norris candidate.

kesler, burrows, bieksa, tanev for stepan, mcdonaugh, staal.

- therealagent

you can't be serious with that rangers offer?

mcdonagh and staal are both top 15 defensemen in the entire NHL and kesler isn't THAT much of an upgrade to stepan.

I wasn't being serious of course. Oilers would likely want Edler + another valuable asset and Edler has a full NTC so good luck with convincing him to go play in Edmonton(no offense guys).

Kesler wouldn't waive to go play for AV again, he hated him the most out of any current Canuck. Rangers would never do that anyways.

Backes, consistently 50pts. 30 goals twice.

Oshie, never scored 20 goals.

He certainly would be He's one of my favourites in the league right behind Kopitar, OEL, and Eriksson. He'd do well playing with a combination of Hall, Yak, Eberle, Hemsky, or Perron! Never gonna happen, I know, but it's fun to dream about!

i like edler's game under torts. hammer is who worries me. he's turning into a giveaway machine for some reason. i think it's the olympic invite that got his head messed up.

To be fair Oshie's been injured and missed good chunks of a few seasons. Another reason to like Backes better though.

Yeah, Edler's been consistent to start the season, when he bring sit every night and playing up to his potential he's a beast on both ends of the ice. I think Hamhuis is going to need a few more games to adjust, could be the Olympic pressure, but I'm guessing it's more of an adjustment to a new system type of thing. he even said so himself that he's thinking more than usual before every shift and during the play.

Injuries play a part there, but when put like that, there isn't much to argue. My apologies, I was wrong. If I could reword what I said, it'd come out like this: "Oshie isn't quite as far off as you portray him. Backes is clearly superior, but Oshie brings elements to his game that could be more valuable outside of Hitch's system that Backes might not."

Edler's looked the same as last year. Good enough to be good. I hope Sullivan and Torts can work with him the way they did guys like McD, Girardi and Staal so he can patch up his D game.

Hammy worries me. He has never looked so bad. He's over committing either to the inside or outside and gets beat. He can't find his gap control.

I think he's been less mistake-prone so far and more consistently physical and willing to battle. He's not a soft guy, never has been even though he doesn't have a mean streak he usually racks up the hits and lays out a few big hits every season. Only problem is his tendency to have an off-game every week or two.

I think Hamhuis will figure things out, he's been our most consistent d-man for years, last year he and Garrison were the most consistent defensemen night in and night out.

I really like the look of the defense if/when Corrado gets called up even though Stanton has been a very good WW pickup. Thank God AHLberts isn't playing.

Since some of you guys are going full retard on the trade suggestions/talk/bullpoop why not just do this

trade oilers roster for Crosby, malkin, and then bring up the whole ahl team 😃. Or better yet just trade for Calgary's full roster

Now what do you think of the Pens game tomorrow, Ryan? Would you rather lose 6-2 or 20-2?

PS, the oilers are fine. They need to spend a practice working on special teams, but they're fine.

Anyone want to give me a primer on pages 25 through 45?

I really don't think we need to make drastic changes to our roster, I just think the guys we have need to play better.
