If you think that's funny that the Rangers are going to collapse and battle the Devils for the basement, in two years, then laugh away. I've seen this attitude play out way to many times. The Flames held on to some of their veteran players for two or three years too long and got very little in return. Toronto held on to Sundin and the rest of the Muskoka 5 and paid with a decade of futility. Vancouver is now batter up on this trajectory, with the Sedin's and Luongo, with very few young assets to build on. They too will continue on, this year, making the playoffs and bowing out in the first round again. The way the Rangers are set up, in the weakest division, they'll probably make the playoffs and lose in 4 straight. They may lose Lunqvist to UFA and get nothing in return. Even worse, he signs a Luongo type deal, with a no trade, no movement clause, then the Rangers collapse and your on the hook for a massive contract with a diminishing asset. Knowing Sather, he'll do what he always does, Flyers style!

i'd like for you to point out which players of our core are over the hump on our roster.

from looking at it, boyle, brassard, callahan, dorsett, hagelin, nash, poiliot, stepan, zuccarello, MDZ, girardi, staal, mcdonagh, stralman, john moore are all under the age of 30 (most closer to 20). as far as a thin prospect pool goes, kreider, miller, fast, kristo, lindberg, hrivik, mcilrath, and allen are all less than 1 year away from being NHL ready and some are already ready.

richards is the oldest player on our roster at 33 and he's our best player at the moment.

i'd argue that the rangers are just entering their prime and their stanley cup window has been open for 2 seasons and will be open for 5 more seasons at least if we can re-sign key players in the upcoming offseason, like lundqvist, callahan, and girardi.

we suck right now but we're 4 or 5 games into the season under a brand new coach. most ranger fans on this site in the offseason expected the team to take 15 games before everyone really got in sync (although 90% of them are now freaking out since game 3 saying we're gonna be a lottery team...) and i'm still a firm believer of that. the capitals were god awful for 20 games last season under a new coach and ended up winning their division and entered the playoffs as the hottest team in the league.

come mid-november, the rangers will be right on track and the 2 embarassing losses to the sharks and ducks will be a blip on the radar.

Assuming Nash is back in I would go w
Stepan/Nash/Richards
Zucc/brassard/maybe Callahan over Pouliot
Kids on the 3rd line
Dorsett/moore/Boyle

What is DD's cap hit? How many years does he have left on his current deal? We could swing you a deal for Reimer, take DD as our backup, you take Liles and you also give us a first, or Darnell Nurse in exchange.

On the Rangers, it's time for a rebuild. Their top players are getting a little over the hill and their prospect pool is getting thin. Maybe it's time to let King Henry go, for a nice package of draft picks and prospects. Most teams don't realize when it's time to tear it down and do a rebuild. Toronto killed 10 years, rebuilding because they didn't move their players at the right time. Same goes for Calgary, however they seem to be on the right track. Vancouver is the next team to realize that it's time for a rebuild. Trading Cory Schneider may have been a shrewd move, looking back, if Bo Horvat turns into the real deal. Rangers need to do it now, or suffer for years to come.

On the rangers: you are off base.

Top players Stepan mcdonaugh staal girardi Callahan are not old.
Nash lundqvist are not over the hill
Richards is the only one who is older and perhaps on the hill tho
He's been their best forward...

Outside of Lunqvist, who would you classify as elite? I like Staal and Girardi, but your offense is too predictable.

i'd say nash and mcdonagh are elite. callahan isn't necessarily an elite player but i think he's an excellent hockey player, along with stepan and a couple other players.

but you don't need 12 elite forwards and 6 elite defensemen to win the cup. i'd rather have 12 callahans than have a team like the oilers full of elite talent that can't make the playoffs.

no doubt the rangers have holes right now. they need another scoring winger in the top 6 to take the pressure off nash along with players in the bottom 6 that can net timely goals throughout the year. i'm hoping kreider can still fill in that top 6 scoring winger role and a kid like fast, miller, or kristo can contribute in the bottom 6.

Nash is good, but I don't classify Callahan as elite. He too is a very good player, but outside of Nash, you have no game breakers.

yea like i said, we need 1 more game breaker at least in our top 6. richards is getting his game back so that helps a lot but i think we need to try and get that final piece to the puzzle rather than blow up the entire team and rebuild. we're right there...just need that final piece.

I hate to burst your bubble, but you need more then one game breaker. You actually need to put together two solid scoring lines. Sure, you have some very good high end checkers in your top 6, but you need more then that. Add two more offensive players and you'd be dangerous. One problem is salary cap. Too much money tied up in too few players. Lunqvist, Nash and Richards, take up too much of your cap and one needs to be moved, to bring in enough good players, to make your lines more balanced.

I need to pick up a goalie in fantasy (Lehtonen was put on IR - though (frank)ing Yahoo still lists him as DTD of course; and Howard is apparently hurt as well).

Which goalie should I take from free agents - Neuvirth (though I would have to do a waiver claim), Enroth, Dan Ellis, Labarbera?

I have to drop Bieksa or Del Zotto in order to grab a 2nd string goalie...god I hate fantasy sometimes.

Pick up a forward and get as much offensive points as possble. I wouldn't trust any of those goalies

- Why So Serious

James Dolan is staggering around his penthouse in a velvet robe, listening to a mixed, loop-tape of Sister Christian while a young asian boy is setting off fire crackers in his living room. The prostitutes have left and JD has just realized that it's Monday. You think he cares about his backup goaltender?

Yeah but my fear is I won't get the 3 required starts this week since both my goalies are hurt right now. I do have Emery as my third goalie but who knows if he'll start.

Now I'm picturing every free agent negotiation Sather does being like Thomas Jane trying to sell fake coke to Alfred Molina.

Sather: "What do you want for it?"
UFA: *inexplicably burst out chuckling for like 30 seconds* "5 million?"

a shame about Dom Moore. wife got sick, dies from breast cancer and he took time off. some serious stuff for a guy barely in his 30's. i hope he gets back up to the big club.

i'm confused. you're saying that one of our 3 gamebreakers in nash, richards, or lundqvist needs to be moved to bring in a gamebreaker? am i the only one that sees that as totally counter-productive?

I want to see the Hockey community do a rip job on Sather for once like they would do to other GM's.
- ses111

Hasn't he done enough to himself? Rangers are a much better team than how they're playing but to me the man behind the draft success is obviously Gordie Clark and Jim Gorton does more than Sather now anyway
