There is still Harrington and Dumoulin. Niskanen will get 3.5-4M per year. Penguins won't be that team.

maybe, but would you be comfortable with letang and scudari, martin being the only d-men with significant nhl experiance? maata, harrington, doumalin, despres even bortuzzo is fresh yet... I know for sure the pens wont be comfortable with that, sheros history is clear on that. orpik might be brought back, but if not, nisk may be possible... not saying probable, but I wouldnt flat out rule it out... as the gentleman stated... they seem quite enamoured of him.

It's pretty sad. I thought that with their talent they would be on track right now.

Their talent is all in the same spots, like the Flyers

its what happens when you draft top end all the time and feel obligated to take the best talent, not draft per position you need to fill. They really should have traded down for roster players on the back end like they needed.

I would have traded the pick from last year for Lou. Don't tell me Vancouver wouldnt have taken that

They wasted their building blocks, they now have too many of the same blocks, so there are holes that are hard to fill.

yeah, it's not pretty over there at all. Worse than Philly bridge jumpers. They sound kind of depressed and listless. It's real Debbie downer territory. I actually feel bad for them It's been a long drought in Edmonton.

I feel bad because the drought did yield some oasis moments (the top draft picks) But instead of using the water as a valuable resource, they hooked up a slip and slide.

Not to mention yakupov has been a healthy scratch the last 2 games that can't be promising.

Ryan said it the best ... Eberle, RNH, Hall and few bodies on D ... what do they do, draft Yak, which is going to turn out to be dumb very quickly. If they had the first pick overall last year, they would have drafted McKinnon instead of Jones.

Hey they still could have drafted a forward. They took Darnell Nurse which I like. I agree though, they could've traded out of that spot a year ago and had multiple picks to load their defensive cupboard. Heck they could have ended up with Reinhart, Maatta or any number of defensive talents. Instead they stubbornly take the forward. I did like them starting to get deeper at center this offseason though. Perron and Gordon seem to have helped them a lot so far.

But again, defense is the problem we all know they have. Perry, Smid, Ference and Schultz aren't going to get it done.

I thought the signing of Gordon was a good one.

At least McKinnon is close to a can't miss center. Yakupov is a winger with question marks.

good luck with that.

but in all seriousness, this is why I hate the dumb draft position or talent question.

when the difference between two guys at different positions is so marginal, you draft based on need. in the case of yaks and murray, you draft murray.

if there was no one ranked at defense until like 9 or 10, you trade down or draft yaks.

EDM is the case study for getting multiple #1 picks in a row and still finding a way to screw it up.

Seems pretty ridiculous, right? Not sure Edmonton and Philly are...compatible...in a trade since they both have the same problem.

That would just be Holmgren continuing on with the same old formula, only worse.
