Not sure if Bill has mentioned this yet but Ghost and Union have played two games so far this season. Ghost went pointless in first game's 3-3 tie with Bowling Green and posted 3 assists in second game's 5-2 win, also over Bowling Green. Hope he continues to put up numbers.

I'm hoping he grows 5 inches and puts on 50 pounds.

If you swap Gretzky and Ron Sutter, Flyers beat Oilers in 5.

Poll: will the flyers win another game this month
- 2Real

They have the Rangers coming up on the 24th and they haven't exactly been killing it either.

Haha, some additional height would be nice, but Lappy said during developmental camp that he doesn't want Ghost to put on much more weight or he'd slow down. That being said, he may have to adjust his position game in order to avoid being obliterated by opposing forecheckers.

I have to agree, the Rangers are the most likely victim.

I hope he puts on 1 inch and 15 pounds.
Also, does anyone know if Union projects as a Frozen Four team again? They were last year, but I don't know how they're viewed now. If so, I wanna get some tix to see him play live.

Agreed. But if the Flyers don't blow several leads in Game 1 and they win that OT in Game 6, they'd have won the Stanley Cup. If Leighton had played even marginally better, the Flyers would have won the Cup. Not blaming it all on the goaltending, because Niemi (and the Chicago D) were pretty mediocre, too.

How did the Flyers match up on paper to the Bruins in 1974? THAT was a lot more lopsided on paper than the Flyers vs. Hawks lineups, although the Hawks also had the better collection of talent.

Leighton didn't have to be Bernie Parent in his prime vs. Chicago. He just had to be a non-factor.

game 6 should have never even gone to OT. they blew a lead in that game in regulation with poor goaltending and carter hit neimi in the mask/shoulder with a gaping net. game 1 and 6....totally winnable.

He uses his size pretty well defensively, he's not afraid to hit or take a hit. But yeah, right now, he's so much better than his competition that he can free-wheel as he sees fit and do whatever he wants in all 3 zones. That would get him murdered in the NHL.

Game 2 was also winnable. The only game that was really decisive was Game 5.

Honestly, 5-11 ain't all that bad for a puck moving defenseman. I think an additional 10 lbs couldn't hurt his mobility.

NCAA.com had Union ranked at 16th back in Sept.

Yeah, 0-1 inches would be fine. He just needs to fill out, not really bulk up.
I know it's just college, but when you watch him, he's just SO MUCH better than everyone else.
I really liked it when he and Gaudreau went up again each other last year. It may as well have been just a 1-on-1 game.

If you have the sports package, you'll be lucky to catch 1-2 games a year for each team. I forget which channel it was, but they broadcast the entire Frozen Four last year, and the ECAC championship. Stolarz' team was on TV a few times, but he never started those games before he moved to London.

Hopefully Mason will continue his stellar play and we will pull off a win tomorrow night against Vancouver. It's always fun to watch Tortorella when he's losing?

BTW, the North American hockey media are just clueless. I was listening to NHL radio this morning and the 2 clowns were busting on Mason, calling him a backup at best. Amazing, the one guy who has played well this year for the Flyers is the one they decide to criticize. Oh well, why am I even surprised?

- BiggE

Most NHL announcers will stick to labels when it comes to teams. Like when we had our top 4 centers as Briere, Giroux, Schenn and Coots and everyone kept talking about the rough and tough flyers team that liked to impose their size.

Mason has 4 consecutive horrendous years in Columbus to atone for and though his numbers look good this year, his record does not (thus far). Those in the know recognize his turn around but the national media is going to take a bit to stop thinking the flyers are always a bruising team that has issues in goal.
