Yup. Mike Morreale had him 2nd overall, calling him an "Eric Staal clone". Bleacher report had him going 6th, but called him a "future franchise center... one of the top 3 players in the draft"

I want to keep Cooter.. I think he will pan out eventually and I don't want to lose him.. Schenn I have my worries about.

Those players fit the mold of exactly what Edmonton needs and they boast a wealth of high skill forwards so the blow of trading a kid like Nail is lessened. Also, the players we'd give up according to those rumors don't create massive holes on the team for us. Move Read into the top six and (if youre including Coots) you still have Laughton for the 3rd line Center role. Coburn would hurt a bit but ultimately you don't let Coburn be the deal breaker in move that could land you a young #1 pick.

all i'm saying is that i think it's far-fetched to believe that edmonton would give up yakupov without getting couturier ++ in the deal. i'm not even convinced they'd do it for that

Its a done deal even if Coots is in the deal. Im scared of Simmonds and Coburns contracts.

No, thats not far fetched at all. Yakupov is a #1 overrall pick
- Just5

I don't think him being picked 1st overall should come into the equation when discussing his trade value. If a team picks a projected 2nd round player 1st overall, then try to trade him, does it make him any more valuable that he was picked 1st overall?

Obviously, that's not a perfect example, as Yakupov is an amazing young player, but many people still believe the Oilers should've picked Ryan Murray. Apparently MacT even went against the opinion of his scouting staff. Word is the majority of them recommended Murray for the 1st pick, but MacT went with Yakupov regardless. I'll look for a link to that story. Either way, right now I'd personally even rate Galchenyuk over Yakupov in terms of value.

any word on these rumors?? maybe i'm leight been in boonies with no internet for Canadian T-giving...

Rich Smith @ALLsportsINTEL 2h BREAKING NHL UPDATE - Source - Flyers and Oilers discussing blockbuster deal that would send Nail Yakupov and Hemsky to Flyers.

Rich Smith @ALLsportsINTEL 2h Oilers reportedly would want Simmonds, Coburn and either Couturier or Laughton for Nail Yakupov and Hemsky.

Rich Smith @ALLsportsINTEL 4h Source - Flyers involved in trade talks with Sabres for Vanek, Flyers reportedly offering Couturier, Coburn and a 2nd rd pick.

- Buzzo

Don't want the last deal, but I would drive Simmonds, Coburn and Scott Laughton to Rexall Place and drive Yakupov and Hemsky back.

But somehow Cooter's #1 ranking going into his last junior year is relevant?

Id be happy to take a chance while getting rid of simmonds long ass contract and coburns last 3 years. We would have a ton of cash this summer

Ha!

But my gosh, if they could get Yakupov and Hemsky...that's what I've been crying that this team needs. Guys who understand offense. Guys who truly understand offense, and have the skill to play it.

I've been a good boy all year, Santa. I really have. I don't deserve to see Wayne Simmonds lose the puck at the blue line while stickhandling when we're scoring one or two goals a night.

Please. Somebody. Anybody. Make this happen. With Coburn gone...I'll even take Meszaros back in the lineup, playing extended minutes.

Now you know I'm desperate.

I agree it doesn't totally matter, but if we got a player with the talent of a top 3 pick, that is important.

No offense but trading for a chronically injury prone guy in Hemsky is trouble to begin with.

Now add in Yakupov, a guy who has already had his dedication questioned along with being labeled as soft/not defensively responsible...

Again, I'd be happy to take a chance on him. I dont even care about Simmonds/Coburn. Those players are easily replacable through UFA. Couturier might make a nice #2 someday that's it. Yakupov's ceiling is floors higher.

No, but can you please wait just a few more minutes to crush my dreams?

I'm trying to remember what it was like to score three goals in a game, and it's taking me a while. So I'm dreaming a little dream that maybe, just maybe, I might see it again in my lifetime.

I think the team at this point needs to stay the course. Get Simmons off the top line. 2 more games in the next 10 days. Then we will see what we've got.

Thanks...in my dreams on Thursday, Yakupov just took a breakout pass from Mark Streit, blew past Brooks Orpik like he was standing still and put one under the bar on Marc-Andre Fleury.

Please, somebody. Make this happen. Please.

In Flyers reality, Yakupov gets hit by Orpik, suffering a career ending injury. Sean Couturier develops into Toews V2 while wearing an Edmonton jersey. Braydon Coburn realizes his draft potential, and wins 3 Norris trophies in the next 4 years for the Oilers. Wayne Simmonds becomes the premiere power forward of the league, surpassing Rick Nash's ability while playing on Selke winner Couturier's wing, leading the Oilers to become the first true cap-era dynasty.

HA!

1. Yes. That is what would happen. Yakupov would probably lose a hand, one leg and have to wear a neck brace for the rest of his life.

2. Yes. That is what would happen. After winning his first Cup, Couturier would tell the adoring crowd at Rexall Place that he would never have become the player he is now without undergoing growing pains in Philadelphia.

3. No. As much as I respect Braydon Coburn and wish he could be that player, that ship has sailed. He would only win one Norris Trophy.

4. Yes. Wayne Simmonds would practice stickhandling every day and, because he is in Edmonton, would watch old Oilers games featuring Jari Kurri. He would develop offensive awareness and score 346 goals next season...beating JVR for the scoring title by one goal.

This is what would happen. You know it. I know it. We all know it.
