Fair assesment. I honestly wouldnt mind seeing him up here, I just dont simply see the allure so many people are oggling over. - vancity787
I think part of that was a numbers game.
Sestito and Weise are both signed to one-way deals.
And for all the grief Weise gets, he's put up some very respectable numbers in the AHL.
If he was in the AHL full time, he'd likely be close to the lead in scoring for the Wolves/Comets the past two years. Although, that's not exactly saying much.
And, as others have mentioned, Sestito is mostly up to be the "heavy bag" for other team's goons. |

He doesn't fight that much and I haven't seen him rushing in for retribution against any wayward hits against our stars. Maybe there just haven't been any. Either way I see Sestito as a non-entity, deadweight. Anyone that provide us more than that gets my vote for a shot. |

So - hopefully Philly doesn't find their scoring touch tomorrow, with our luck Giroux will explode for a hatty and two helpers. |

He took on Gudas against EDM, and didn't embarrass himself...(baby steps)
I think the hope is that since he's still young and put up decent numbers in lower leagues he might still be able to turn into a competent hockey player, as well as be a below average enforcer.
Conditioning looked like a major issue this season.
I'm fine with him sitting in the press box for all the games where there isn't any need to have an enforcer.
I'd guess that when Burrows and Schroeder are back, he's bumped to the press box and the lineup looks close to what ASL posted earlier. |

So the Colts destroy the 49ers on the road, beat the Hawks at home and then lose at San Diego?
The parity in this league is killing me. |

Rumour over at HF is that DET had an offer on the table for Edler within a few days of his NTC kicking in.
Again, no way of knowing the legitimacy, but apparently the offer was;
Nyquist, Jarnkrok, Smith, and a pick.
Gillis apparently wanted the pick to be DET's 2013 1st (Mantha), and that was the deal breaker for DET.
Whether true or not, that's quite a good deal in terms of future potential for the Canucks—just not enough value in terms of guaranteed roster players.
Would have needed something a bit more proven for me to like that deal. |

The best thing about the Oilers struggles, it's keeping Iggy out of our theads. |

If we are to give up a top D man for a first or second line scorer I really don't think it is improving us. Depth on the defence is something that not many teams have. We still have depth but the perception of that depth is not the same to all. |

Yeah. The montage where they play Nat King Cole while Walt "ties up loose ends." |

Everyone says we over value are players. Wow just head over to the Oil tread. Yak has been in the press for 2 games and counting and they still think he is worth the world. Great young prospect but come on is he worth a top 10 goalie and a 3 or 4 Dman? |

Wow, if he managed to land the 1st then that would have been a pretty good hall. Use that freed up money to sign a good player as well and the team looks to be in pretty good shape. Especially if Gillis drafted Mantha, that kid looks like he's the real deal. (frank)ing Holland. |

Ference is a great signing for them, and we overpaid for Garrison |

Nyquist is an NHL player who's struggling to crack into a lineup full of over the hill vets with 1-way deals (Samuelsson, Bertuzzi, Cleary). He should be a regular on that team and if he was I think he'd be putting up decent numbers.
Brendan Smith is a decent Dman and could have plugged the gap Edler left without a dramatic reversal in this teams defensive performance IMO.
Don't know Jarnkrok but Hockey Prospects has him at 7.5 and their top C prospect. And we don't what pick it was DET had in mind.
I think it was a decent offer without a doubt. I would have countered with:
Nyquist, Smith, Abdelkader |

That would of been an instant rebuild. Nyquist, Jarnkrok, Smith, Mantha, Hunter and Bo all within a week. |

MG could have dropped Jarnkrok from the offer if he really wanted that 1st rounder. But maybe it was non-negotiable for Holland. Who really knows, it's just another rooomer. |

Could have used that money freed up moving Edler to sign a good UFA though. |
