It does seem an odd move considering where they're using Dalpe.
He's entirely a top6 player. Really has little to no qualities that would make him an effective checker or grinder.
I'd give him a couple shifts on the 2nd line. Let Kesler take the draw, and then move to wing with Dalpe in the centre.
Might not work, but I don't see how it would make that 2nd line less effective than they've been the last few games.
I'd like to see the same experiment with Schroeder, when he returns. |

Gillis the hockey guru of trades.
I know you meant Dalpe |

Or trade for another second line center. |

Not gonna happen. Not this year. - Nucker101
Kesler or otherwise, if we're a .500 team with the same deficiencies come November and Gillis hasn't made a sincere effort to improve this team then he should receive an Aquilini visit of his own telling him to turn off the tv and listen up. |

Don't have the assets unless they trade a couple of the prospects, which they can't really afford to do.
Neither Kesler or Edler will be traded this year.

I think it is possible to see a big trade or two this year. If we are going into US Thangiving out of a playoff spot Gillis will pull the trigger. I think he realizes this year if we have a first round exit fans will be calling for his head. Unlike past years this year he may be on the hotseat. |

I didn't say never. I said not this year.
I could see Kesler possibly being dealt in the off season if his struggles continue and he becomes unhappy enough to waive his NTC. I still think it's unlikely.
I doubt Edler gets traded in the near future (next couple seasons). He's been very good so far this year, and Torts appears to be impressed.
It was pretty apparent that the Canucks missed his zone exit/entry against the Habs.
EDIT: The Canucks will have some flexibility in the off season if the cap goes up and they buy out Booth.
I'd guess that if we're going to see any major changes, it happens then. |

Vancouver is 500 no need to panic. Edm and Philly are playing up to expectations |

Edler has been a pleasant surprise and his stock is high now.
Again Gillis does not have all year IMO. If we have an uneventful year I think he is gone . As I preached all summer, I think this team is not good enough, and so far as early as it is are proving me right. They have only beaten the non playoff teams and struggled in two of the three victories.
Gillis also has to consider buying out Lu this year? Not saying it will happen but his contract is a death sentence. If he can not be traded you have to look at option two as a possibilty .
Crowds are disappearing and fans are complaining. I don't think Gillis has a long rope this year. |

We need to hang onto young players and possibly trade a kesler for 2 young players if we can get any. I mean look at what we traded our big young studs for
Schneider, Hodgson, Grabner and a 1st for Horvat, Kassian, Ballard OH MY GOD we got boned.
In all seriousness what we need is christian ehrhoff. Powerplay has sucked since hes gone. The fact we kept bieksa over him floors me he just fit in out system. our team needs to fix the pp and we will be fine |

It's possible that Gillis might have played all his hands, and can only hope that the team rights itself once everybody has settled into Tortarella's system.
It's still early, and we've yet to see the full lineup. I still maintain that Schroeder will be given an opportunity to prove he can be a top6/9 player on this team, whether he ends up proving it or not.
Kassian has also only played one game.
It's still early.
It looks bleak, but Gillis doesn't have much to work with as far as valuable roster players without NTCs. And I doubt he'd dip too far into the prospect pool.
Whether they're at the hands of Gillis or a new GM, I doubt we see any major moves until the off season.

Agree with most of this.
The only thing I hope is that at the TD this year, he either goes "all-in" or moves some older players that don;t fit the team moving forward depending on what kind of season this team ends up having. I'm not a fan of the cautious one foot in and one foot out approach. |

I agree it is early but
Take a look at the next 10 games for a bit of a project and ask how many do you see the Canucks winning? It is a 7 game EASTERN road trip which are very hard on the body with the travel. Combine that with next week they are playing 4 games which is a lot then they fly back . History does not hold well for first games back of RTrips . For the last two games they play Det and Tor who seem to have their poop together .

I don't see a new GM coming in, unless he is just as good at being a yes man for FA. Next year is the year that counts if Bo and Hunter make the team. This year is for determining if Booth or Lu should be bought out and what other players should be moved. Once Torts has his system installed he can then start asking for certain players. The only thing I am expecting this year is Bure's no. being retired. |

I just don't see any other course of action being available to Gillis except being cautious.
He doesn't really have the assets to go "all in".
I highly doubt any major prospects are in play, and there is nothing of value on the roster that doesn't have a NTC, except for Tanev. Maybe Booth for a 7th rounder?
It really makes the Higgins signing (mainly the term and NTC) a head scratcher, since he's the type of player that would at least garner a 2nd-4th rd pick or a project prospect at the TDL. And it's not like the Canucks are short 3rd line two-way wingers.
Unless a dynamite offer falls in Gillis's lap, and he's able to convince someone to waive a NTC, it's really a wait-and-see year.
As Booner put it, Gillis appears to have "painted himself into a corner." |

Yup. Phil and NY may have attractive offers that maybe will waive
NTC
