I don't know, but if we offer up our 2014 1st pick, our 2014 2nd round pick, a d-man not named Nurse, Schultz (and possibly Klefbom) I'm thinking we'll get a response.
- laughs2907

Ah well with that in mind...

Yeah no. They're giving up too much in both deals.

Am I really the only one who doesn't really have much of a problem with the D so far this year?

Their record is really not a surprise... It's the reasons behind it that we're unexpected.

One underlying reason. Dubnyk. I've been a Dubnyk supporter since day one and I'm eating my hat as I type this. But give the kid some room to breathe. Give him more than 4 games to get back to what he was just last season. Yak is 20!!!!! 5 games and he's no good either?! Come on you knuckleheads, you can't truly believe the world is ending 5 games into the season.

That being said, Dubnyk get 5-10 games to prove himself.

You're offering way too much in both deals, IMO. You want to offer a 1st overall, plus another decent prospect for a 4th overall? Then you think you have to give up a 1st (which might be top 8) plus another prospect for a starting goalie? Which starting goalie would that be? NJ gave up the 10th overall for an established young goalie. The Leafs gave up 2 fringe NHL'ers and a 2nd for Bernier (who everyone thought was ready).
- djamon

I think we'd have to overpay to get the players we need though. Especially Jones in Nashville... I think they'll want a lot to get him out of there. After years and years of talking draft picks, I don't care about those anymore... I want to target guys who I feel will make us better now. Yes, it would probably be viewed as overpaying, but mostly because of the 2014 draft picks, and I really don't mind forgetting about 1 draft in order to make us a better team now.

Your D wasn't bad at all last night. The Leafs are a top 5 offensive team right now and you guys would have won if not for your crappy goalie play.

Dubs has never been under pressure... all his important starts were meaningless as the oil were out of contention. I give the team till the end of October

The D isn't bad, but I believe it would need to be better in order to do a little damage. I want to trade from an area of strength (offense - Yak) to strengthen our D (Jones -- Who appears to be a (frank)ing beast)... Man, Jones and Nurse together on the back end... *Drool*

I agree with you, totally. We can't possibly win a trade that sees us move eberle or yak. When you give up the best player, you're almost certain to lose on the deal.
I think we should continue to build off our obvious improvements and work on out problems. Duby can't possibly blow like this all year.

Can he?

I guess it depends on the goalie you're talking about. Would it be a starter, or a young guy like Lehner? I'm not sure who's out there right now.

Holtby, Markstrom, Allen? Or a guy like Miller?

I know it sucks to lose, but after watching the Franson replay I don't see a penalty. He doesn't grab him, he reaches from behind and tries to stick check him. RNH slows and Fransons pushes him to the ice - this is how most of his checks are, after watching players getting slammed into the boards from behind every game - Franson looks like the poster child for clean checks
- Garnie

Last I checked in the NHL, it is a penalty to use your free hand to grab at a guy. This has been a penalty since they started getting rid of the clutching and grabbing in the game.
Rule 54 - Holding
54.1 Holding – Any action by a player that retards the progress of an opposing player whether or not he is in possession of the puck.
54.2 Minor Penalty - A minor penalty shall be imposed on a player who holds an opponent by using his hands, arms or legs.
A player is permitted to use his arm in a strength move, by blocking his opponent, provided he has body position and is not using his hands in a holding manner, when doing so.
A player is not permitted to hold an opponent’s stick. A minor penalty shall be assessed to a player who holds an opponent’s stick (assessed and announced as “holding the stick”).
A player is permitted to protect himself by defending against an opponent’s stick. He must immediately release the stick and allow the player to resume normal play.

Sounds like the play we saw in OT last night.

A level headed Oilers fan... They do exist!!! Well said man... Ya he might suck or he might not give it some time before people start jumping off the high level bridge or voting liberal.

If Yak and Jones are the key pieces to a trade though, are we giving up the best player?

That's unfair to state. He played under pressure in the worlds for Canada and you can't blame him for posting a .920 save % during losing season. He's never had a good team in front of him. 4 bad games isn't enough. Watch us get back to .500 by the end of this road trip.

Yeah, it would definitely depend on who is coming back... I'm just talking about using those assets as bait to see what offers we would get. Yeah, whether or not we were overpaying would certainly depend on the offers we got. I'd assume that package would get some interest though.

As sweet as it would be to get Jones, its not happening this year. Nashville will give him at least two years to prove his worth before even considering moving him.

He used his free hand to impede RNH. There was a slight tug and the the push. They have been calling less than that for the past 4 years.

Well that remains to be seen. But by the end of the year, with yak gone were down to eberle and brown on the RW. But we will then have jonesmarincin/nurse/klefbom/Davidson/gernat/Larson/musil as prospect d men...

I think our position of strength with then be lopsided. A knee jerk reaction to duby's terrible start isn't a good idea in my opinion. He's a good goaltender, let's let him prove he can work through some adversity. It's good for him!
