i dunno what it is but it just seems fowels gets the job done with completions
vick just runs for first downs and gets clobbered
why can't vick make the same completions?

Foles is tall and sees the field and has good timing. Vick is short and relies on his arm too much. I dont care how many yards he gains with his legs

Ha! You want to know the honest truth? The performance of the players the Phantoms were replacing were so bad, so limiting this team, that you could literally call up AHL-trained players and make the Flyers look better.

I like Scott Hartnell, and I'm sure Andrej Meszaros is trying his best. But last night was the first time this season the Flyers actually looked like an NHL team that might actually beat other NHL teams, and there's a reason for that.

This team could be actually be pretty good, if the front office is aggressive and just says, "You know what? If Erik Gustafsson made us look that much more effective, what would we look like if we got an above-average NHL puck mover in here or a defensive stud who can move, to pair with Mark Streit? What would Vincent Lecavalier look like with a winger who creates and buries chances better than Wayne Simmonds? What would Sean Couturier look like with TWO productive wingers?"

I'm dead serious: Vincent Lecavalier and Mark Streit...I can't change their ages, or salaries. I know people don't like aspects of what they are now, or bring to the team.

But they weren't the problem here.

Scott Hartnell was "black-holing" the first line. Andrej Meszaros was "black-holing" the defense. Playing Jay Rosehill at all when you're not scoring, and giving Zac Rinaldo more minutes, might be the single-stupidest thing this franchise has done since I started watching it.

I think I've been reading this team fairly decently, and I'm totally serious: Three moves make this team a playoff team -- and they're moves that this franchise should be able to make. They just have to be willing to cash in Wayne Simmonds and Braydon Coburn.

- AllInForFlyers

Or what would the team look like if Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Hartnell, and Read scored a few goals! Jay Rosehill has zero to do with that. And why did Rinaldo get more minutes? Because two players got hurt!
If the players on this team start playing like they're capable of, this team can be a playoff team.

yea that's one thing i noticed with foles today he seems to just find the open receiver at the right time and the passes are certainly catchable too

I don't hate the guy. At all.

But he can't play anymore. I'm sorry. He can't. Whether it's the injuries or whatever, limited hockey sense or whatever, Andrej Meszaros cannot produce at this level.

The best he can do for you is get on the ice and not get scored on. He will not create offense. He will not stop other players.

Let's not forget that he was dumped out of Tampa Bay, a few years back, and that his greatest success here was on a third pairing where Chris Pronger, Matt Carle, Braydon Coburn and Kimmo Timonen ate every single tough minute that could be played.

Meszaros since then has had back surgery, two shoulder surgeries and a blown-out Achilles.

He can't play anymore. I'm sorry. He can't.

This is an extreme exaggeration. He can play. His game has gotten better and better since training Camp.

Giroux needs another guy that can create space to alleviate some pressure off him as trying to do it all is clearly affecting his game. Hartnell lines up at the slot or crease and waits to be fed. He creates nexts to nothing for a top line player. Apply nearly all the pressure to G and the top line becomes totally ineffective. I would like to see Vinny come back and play on the top line. Whether it be as LW or C(moving G to the wing). Give Coots the keys to the 2nd line with Hartnell and Read.

Vinny G Voracek
Hartnell Coots Read
Raffl/McGinn Schenn Simmonds
Talbot Hall Rinaldo

A player going hard to the net occupies defenseman and created space for other players. And the biggest problem offensively with this team, is that they don't go to the net well enough. A good line needs balance.

He's had a rough year. When he gets back on track he is a player that will generate a lot of interest from teams.

With Simmonds being locked up and the severe lack of skill on the wing I dont know how much more time Hartnell has in Philly but he isn't the unmovable player people think he is. There are a lot of teams missing that type of player in their top 6.

- hereticpride

There's simply not a sever lack of skill on the Wing. The Flyers have one of the deeper offensive forward cores in the NHL. Just none of them are producing. And if the Flyers trade him, they'd become one of the teams that is missing that type of player in their top 6.

The Flyers probably couldn't have had a worse start to the Season. The talk is that you have to finish in the top 3 of the Metro Division to make the playoffs. The Flyers, even with the way they have started the season. Are 3 points out of 3rd, and 4 points out of second in the division.

that's what you get in a line with couture and pavelski
pavelski will go to the net and create a distraction for couture to move around with another teammate

hartnell just flops around like a fish

It is kind of rare that a team with the skill the Flyers have at forward all go through a scoring slump at the same time. Usually its a few guys, but the entire forward corp?

I hope Berube can fix this by the time they come back from that 6 day break.

I still can't believe they wasted a training camp on a guy they fire 3 games in.

It's also rare you hire a guy like Berube who probably helped plan and attempt to execute the plan the off season & pre-season plans.

I think that an assistant Coach has some input. But an assistant's job is to implement and teach what the head coach wants. And the GM decides who the head coach is. Berube has shown that his ideas and philosophies are significantly different then Laviolette's. So I would say that how the team attempted to play, was not how Berube would choose to.
