Exactly! You guys are the Flames from 2 years ago. We've been lucky so far this year but at least it's been exciting. Giroux is a stud, just going through a rough patch. His hand is probably still hurting him.
- whipper334

HA! Awesome. The thing about it is we don't have Jay Bouwmeester and Jarome Iginla to cash in for first-rounders.

I like what the Flames have done -- Sean Monahan was the obvious choice for you guys, but you still had to take him and did, and you put him on a scoring line.

Glad to see your rebuild is off to a nice start.

I would hope by now all personal moves are going through Hexy. I would think at this point there is no confidence in Homer
- vejim

Seems unlikely to me. Homer wouldn't tolerate that, I imagine he'd rather be fired than be an empty suit.

Thanks dude! I still think it'll be a long year though. How's Emery looked?

Found it interesting that the rumors are that Homer won't get fired and when he leaves, it'll be on his own accord w/ Hexy taking over.

Sounds like somebody will be resigning a la Clarkie if this season really goes down the tubes.

Is the assumption that Hextall will be a better GM than Homer, or just that a change is needed and things can't get worse?

Cause all these calls for changing the GM and then trading the team seem more than a little simplistic.

He's only played one game, got hung out to dry against Montreal. On one goal, Rene Bourque -- who I'm sure you remember -- got to hang out in the slot and absolutely fire it.

He was good in his 1 game to date, and his second game is tonight. So far both of our goalies have looked very good. The rest of the team, not so much...

Brutes! I thought Emery looked great last year. Too bad they're aren't playing him more.

Are you guys hearing in Philly town that Homer is going hard after GlenX?

It's probably both, and really, that's the reason I haven't been calling for it.

If/when it's time for Paul Holmgren to go -- and it may be right now -- I don't really know if any GM is going to come in and fix everything that's wrong in a quick, efficient fashion.

There are some moves that can be made that can make us look better, maybe solidify a playoff spot. But if we've guessed wrong on Couturier and Schenn, and Streit and Lecavalier don't give us above-average play for at least three years, what difference is it going to make who the GM is?

Yup. Maybe the end is near for Homer regardless of how the team does. Maybe he's burned bridges with other GMs and players and is having a hard time getting things done any more?

Nice! You gonna hide the bottles around the house/yard and have a "hunt"?

Hextall describes himself as a very analytical guy, which seems to be the polar opposite of Homer's gut.

Leads me to believe that he would budget better, not try to sign every big name just because they're available, get the cap/CBA details straight, and maybe be a bit more conscientious during contract negotiations.

But yeah, that's a lot of assumptions based on one self-professed character trait.

Yeah, he's far from the only problem, but he is the single most glaring one to me.

if luke schenn is really regressing as badly as has been suggested (by dreger/drastic cuts in ice time) then this defense is really depressing. and i actually think streit's looked BETTER than i expected. but should things not get turned around, that has to be the main focus of the reshaping. if we're going to be saddled with a 5 mil number 4-5 pp specialist guy, we can't have three handsomely paid totally one dimensional defensive specialists. without a single top pairing guy in the group

i'll give them time, but should this last all year i'd really hope that two of coburn, grossmann, schenn are not back next year (and despite the early negativity, i'd favor 22)

Yeah it was all over Cow town, problem I think is his no trade clause and the fact he has a ranch 1 hour from Calgary. I think he's heard the rumours because he's been off so far this season.

I dont think Streit is simply a PP specialist.

Just focus in on him in the d-zone during the next game and you'll be saying otherwise. It's downright embarassing.

Not you, too...Christ, it's turned into WIP in here; the defeatists have taken over. 5 games in - 2 of them under a new coach - and the season's a wash.

Sure, they look like crap right now. Give Berube a little time. If this keeps up, there will be personnel changes on the roster. If that doesn't snap 'em out of it, maybe all really is lost. It just seems a little premature to lose all hope at this point.

- tangent_man

I'm not liking what I am seeing. I am not advocating throwing in the towel or another major move. I want patience. I always felt the forwards were build for the tomorrow with the young guys and the defense for the now. The direction is just frustrating me. I do think they chase the team that previously eliminated them. and very much like the flyers these days, I am all over the place with this post

I'd think about Raffl on the 2nd line and Simmonds on the 3rd. Why the hell not? Hopefully Raffl comes in and shows this guys how it's done.

Agreed. The GM has to have a dance partner on another team to work out a trade that helps us. Then of course you have to deal with those pesky contracts and movement clauses. And then you have to get good value to make the trade worthwhile...and it just seems we have too many value question marks which starts us off in a weak position.

If enough guys get hurt, I think they can recall Laughton on an emergency basis.
