And suddenly, the 20 year old seasoned vet has stopped developing and has reached his offensive ceiling of being a 35 point player.

Ok.

He really doesn't show any glimmer of hope that he can be a regular contributor offensively...

I'd like to keep Jake, Read, Giroux and ideally the Schenn's around.

The rest of them? I could give a rats ass. Honestly I like Coots, and its always great to have a solid shutdown guy, but if that's all he is going to be, he becomes expendable in the right deal.

Couturier is only 20 years old. You can see growth in his game. He's starting to use his improved side to shield the puck, and to win battles. When he matures and reaches his full size, he's going to be a handful in this League.

Defend him if you wish.

Are you really seeing the offensive instincts?

Nobody is saying to throw him away for change, but Couturier should not be untouchable.

Did we get the #1 pick yet?

i agree, and that's fine (not really). get a top 5 pick, dump the dead weight, and keep grooming the legit prospects.
- hammarby31

This team has to be blown up for the most part Hammar. They have some keepers, but there is a ton of overpriced aging players here. As you said a lot of dead weight.

I would promote Hextall right now, and fire Holmgren. Don't want him making any bad trades trying to save his job.

It should be painfully obvious that they need to re-build.

Snider can be pissed off all he wants, its the management that has built this poop show, and run it into the ground.

- flyer_nutter

and coaching, too. players get mishandled by the coaches, management loses patience, trades ensue. see bob, sergei and vR, james most recently.

He has shown offensive promise but based on what they are asking him to do each game it's easy to miss the times he is able to put it on display.

They don't need to rebuild. That's crazy. How do you need to rebuild when the majority of the core of your team is under 25?

No?

I'll tell you what, he's been in the middle of things pretty consistently since Chief took the reigns.

Absolutely. The improvement in his offensive game is obvious.

I'm not giving up on the season. However, the Flyers chose to go all in last year as Snyder always does.

Traded a 4th rd pick for Gagne as a rental.
Didn't dump any older, non returning players at the deadline.
Frigging played lights out down the stretch to blow a top 5 pick(Seth Jones). Also dropped all subsequent picks 6 positions.

Serious question, could the Flyers have gotten much back for Timmo at the deadline last year if he waived his MNC?

Schenn torn ACL out for the year, figures their best forward gets hurt.

Thank you for the quick diagnosis Dr Y. I'm sure you're fully accurate.

Look who cares about, Richards, Carter, JVR, Lupul, bobrovsky, we got streit, lecavalier, emery... Pronger is still technically part of the team and might even coach!

What a mess. Hextall needs to take over but not sure this will be a quick fix.
- Hextall271

I still think they gave a decent core but to round everything out it will not be a quick fix at all, but that something Uncle Ed won't want to hear or accept.

I'd be just fine with hextall taking over and then deciding on a new coach. Berubeay or may not be the guy.

They really should've chose to go in a different direction last year.

OB, I understand what you are saying.

However I keep hearing this stuff for Coburn and Giroux also. Coburn being asked to always do too much, and Giroux doesn't have talented wingers.

Its true Coots hasn't been given the best players to play with, or that he has tough match ups. There is nothing wrong with a solid 3rd line shutdown center. If that's all he will be though, he becomes expendable in the right deal for me.

Agree to disagree,

Well like many they tend to ignore some of the things they are doing well and stick to being negative all the time.

holmger has made a lot of solid moves, but the last 2 seasons...kind of going all downhill. at least it feels that way.

i wish the team would stop acquiring aging former stars...those moves just don't pan out here.

i could see hextall taking over this season. wouldn't shock me.

I'm sorry OB, but they aren't 12. This is the god damn NHL where they make millions of dollars to play a game. I expect them to play with some level of competancy that they haven't showed in two years. The "good" things they are starting to do are things other teams do every single (frank)ing night. If I wanted to watch a team take dumb penalties, make passes inaccurate without purpose, and run around in their defensive zone without any skill, I'll go watch the local peewee's. There are no moral victories in this league and frankly they have been irresponsible and unaccountable for the disgrace they put on the ice each night. I don't need to be told that I'm blind to the "good" things on the ice when these are things professionals should know how to do with regularity. When they stop being lazy and dumb, fans wi stop getting on them.
