Didn't see the game, but I call the hit on Hertl karma. You don't show a beaten team up up in your 3rd NHL game.

One angle gives a better view of hit and definitely makes it look like he hit his shoulder and came up which caused the helmet to pop off. You don't need to hit a players head to have a helmet come off. Hertl didn't even fall
- kneughter

Neither did Nash in his most recent incident where he got bowed (Stuart i think?). Doesnt really matter if they fall or not. Also because of that piece of garbage Mike Smith, Edler has a suspension history, so i wouldnt completely rule out a suspension.

Hertl is reaching for the puck right before he gets hit. The kid just put himself in a vulnerable position, and I don't see a scenerio where Edler could do something different.

I don't think he gets suspended.

What the league wants him to do is to just stand there and try a desperate pokecheck and prey that Hertl won't easily skate around him for a breakaway goal. If it was Vlasiv lining up Kesler or Booth I'd say the same thing, not a suspension at a. Just like the refs called it.

Shannahan factors in if the player got injured or not. He's said so in many of his videos.

Give hertl one game for putting himself in that position... Everyone sees the lid fly off and freaks out without analyzing how it actually happened

I believe there's currently a significant drop off in talent once that first line takes a seat. It's not so much lack of interest, it's lack of top six talent!
- LeftCoaster

This. Getting outplayed pretty much top to bottom doesn't equal disinterest as much as being mismatched.

Yeah, SJ's third line looks as good as our second. That right there is a huge advantage.

Is it just me or does it look like Edler barely moved a muscle while drifting in a straight line towards the boards? There is no "right of way" in hockey and it's up to Hertl to either check Edler or skate around him. What is this league coming to?

And their 4th isn't too bad either by 4th line standards. For our 4th line, if they just don't allow any goals against we'd consider that a success.

Haha, suspend the rookie who got hit? Head down or head up, the guy getting hit like that shouldnt get suspended. Thats like Eddie O saying Yakupov should have gotten a penalty or suspended because he ducked a Carcillo check attempt and "Carcillo could have been seriously injured on the play"...kind of, maybe its not completely like that but it reminds me of that when i read your comment. There's plenty of veterans that have gotten blown up with their heads down. Cant blame the recipient for that.

I'm calling a Kesler to Columbus Blue Jackets trade right now.

As long as the Canucks get a playmaking C in return and potentially another prospect or high draft pick I'm in

Not that tossing in the towel this year is appealing, but I don't think this team as its constructed will have enough to win a playoff series. Still, making the playoffs is important for the organization to earn a profit.

Sedin should have been suspended for trying to injure Dustin Brown's shoulder.
/sarcasm

In all seriousness and without any bias, has the window of this Canucks core closed? If not, how many more years do you think they have before it does? Just curious what the consensus is.

Totally agree, but we can ice a good 4th line when healthy.

Wouldn't be surprised if Edler got a couple games.

Kassian's stick to Gagner shouldn't have even been reviewed, and it got pre-season + 5 games.

This shouldn't even be reviewed either.

Whatever the wheel lands on...

Well by direct I meant actually got a good piece of him(some angles only show shoulder contact). Seemed to me like Hertl completely changed Edler's angle by moving out of the way at the last second. It's similar to the boarding incidents when a player is standing sideways and once an opposing player commits to hitting him, the "victim" player turns his back to him at the last half second drawing a penalty and potentially more.

I would do a Kesler for Dubinsky + Cam Atkinson.

Isn't he more of a Steve Downie type player? I think we need more of a Sean Monahan type guy plus a winger prospect or an actual hockey player.

Monahan and Jackman for Kesler?

I'm I'm Columbus, why would I do that trade? Again, not trying to stir things up, but if the entire fanbase wants a player moved (which it seems like most of you do), what makes you think he'd get this kind of return?

I personally think Kesler gets a bit too much criticism, but I haven't watched him closely the past 2 years. But if you want good value, which Dubisnky and Atkinson can bring, and Kesler's not really bringing it any more, why would he fetch such a return? Again, I'm really just curious.

No thanks. I like Atkinson but Dubinsky will be ripped even more than Kesler by you guys if you want him as 2LC. Kesler's better offensively IMO. Again, I'm probably biased here though.

I'd be good money that Columbus would at least seriously consider that offer. Kesler is the exact type of player their new management loves, guys with size and a bit of grit that can produce and hard to play against.
