I recall Turris being even further behind because he wasn't there concerns about the competition he was facing at the time? Or am I misremembering?
- johndewar

Turris had those Sakic comparisons that whipped everybody into a frenzy... I remember a lot of people being angry that they took the big kid over the Sakic-clone. Me included...

Be patient, I think Voracek is just getting back to game shape after hurting his back. At some point, probably soon, he will be back with Giroux and they will start to click. I'd rather have the 25 year old Giroux and the 24 year old Voracek playing together with either Hartnell or Simmonds than spend 6 million plus on Elias or a similar vet.
- BiggE

I don't think Giroux and Voracek were nearly as good together as Giroux jagr and hartnell.

Aside from the holdout, I don't think he's done anything to be disliked. Wouldn't be surprised to see him wearing a letter soon in Ottawa.

He does have a pseudo-Sakic wrister, though... and he's pretty good both ways.

To me, it's still a tossup between him and JVR after all these years.

Agreed. We had a run of short-lived captains (Primeau to Hatcher to Forsberg to Smith to Richards), so let's see if Giroux can bring some stability to it. No need to make a rash judgement after 4 games.
- jmatchett383

unfortunately, the first 3 were all ephemeral due to injury, and in the first two cases, causing retirement. if primeau were still healthy, he could very well still be the captain of this team and nearing retirement - ready to hand it off to G.

i'm with you though...stability is much needed here.

The best thing about the Jagr year here for me was I absolutely hated him before, but after "getting to know him" so to speak, now I think he is great. Love his style and sense of humor on top of the obvious hockey skills.

So it is likely a back up goalie today which seems to be the kiss of death for the Flyers.

Also they have a dude on the team named Laurie who is a known Flyer killer.

great.

It was also nice to have a veteran of his ilk among the top 6. He always seemed to calm things down when they needed it.

That's another reason I wanted a veteran to play with G. I feel they have too many young forwards in the top 9. Very little experience out there.

Im still not exactly jumping for joy with that first line...Simmonds and Hartnell are not exactly puck possession type players to play with Giroux, and with Giroux far from lighting it up so far I dont see them getting him going either imo.

Im kind of shocked to see Rosehill still in the line up....Why not insert Newbury after Rosehills dumb extra penalty last game and the fact who does the Yotes have as a true enforcer out there?

Bissonnette who is coming off his suspension.

I would sure like to see Gustafsson draw into the lineup soon to see what he can do. I love his mobility and he can move the puck up ice really well. Sometimes with the flyers they have diamonds in the rough that they fail to recognize before it is too late. Bobrovsky, Sharp, Lupul to name a few, note Versteeg is not on my list. Any thoughts on Gusty getting into the game?

I think they knew Bob had starter potential (Maybe not Vezina potential) and Lupul was already a top 6 forward on the Flyers. People forget that he was one of the famous Homer big extension/trades.

I wanted them to take Cherepanov.

That was a real shame...

Very true and it's pretty clear that he grew up a whole lot over his career. Incredibly insightful in his media interviews now

Hartnell.
He has been on nearly every great line they have had for the past few seasons.

I expected him to get in great shape this summer and start the season on fire.

Yes and no. Giroux and Jagr were great for the first half of the season, then Jagr began to slow/break down and they weren't as effective. I like the combo of speed and skill that Voracek brings to the line.

I would love to see Gus get some time in but I don't think that will happen until after the new system has been implemented and has had a few games to get the players acquainted or there is an injury of some kind *knock on wood*

By veteran, I'm talking a more heady/crafty player. I wouldn't call Hartnell either of those things.

Supposedly he IS in great shape coming into this season. All I keep hearing about is the 7% less body fat this year. We have to remember that just because he's leaner, though, doesn't mean his conditioning is where it should be

Hartnell Down
Hartnell vs Hulk Hogan
Hartnell throws a glove to stop a breakaway
Hartnell wig night

It doesn't get any headier then that.

I wasn't really an avid follower of the draft back then. I would watch it, but I didn't do much research beforehand.
- PhillySportsGuy

I was actually asking for Sam Gagner, he of the 7-point game.
