If I had my druthers, the D-corps would look like this:

44 Kimmo Timonen - 5 Braydon Coburn
26 Erik Gustafsson - 22 Luke Schenn
8 Niklas Grossmann - 41 Andrei Meszaros

Mobility, size and puck-moving on every line. Dress Streit as a forward (or 7th D) and play the heck out of him on the PP.

Interesting.
I like this I think.

just friggin put jake with giroux already and let them reestablish their chemistry

im getting the feeling its time for him to work his weird magic with another group. he always seems to come out of nowhere and make an effective line.

plus he's starting to annoy me

would you rather be at this party or Pitbull's?
- wilsonecho91

No contest, this party.

But as for the book and movie, "The Great Gatsby", I pretty much hated every character in the book by the end of it.

Needs to be done. Coburn is a turnover machine, he can't pass and is often caught out of position. Timonen is done after this season and his usefulness is lowered after every season. We need to start getting those young guys like Gus some experience. Hell last season the second Coburn got injured the Flyers started winning games. The D core played better with Manning, Lauridsen, Gus than with Coburn Mez and Grossman in the lineup.
- xShoot4WarAmpsx

Actually, Coburn's been their 2nd best defenseman. That's not saying much, but in this abbreviated season, he has. As for his turnovers, he has the 2nd lowest amount (3) on the team while playing the 2nd most ice time. So I wouldn't call hima turnover machine more than anyone else of the team save Grossmann (0 so far).

They started to win when 4/6 of their defense went down and Lavi changed the team defense. Which, again, proves that you only need competent players and a good system to play competitive hockey. But if you honestly think that Lauridsen, Manning, and Gustafsson are a better bottom 3 than Coburn, Grossmann, and Meszaros, then we're really not going to get anywhere.

Lmao. I had that same idea too. Thought it was too crazy.

It kind of makes sense, doesn't it?

By taking him out of the ES rotation, you can mitigate his defensive shortcomings, not have to line-match as carefully to shelter him from matchups. Plus, he hasn't shown that he's any better at triggering the breakout at ES than anybody else, so keeping him in the rotation for that reason seems a bit silly.

Where he's really useful is in the o-zone and PP... so why not selectively employ him there? Like how all of Marc-Andre Bergeron's teams have used him -- an off-the-bench offensive secret weapon.

That's Homer's problem... Berube's got to realize that his team stands a better chance of winning w/ Gus in the lineup over Rosehill.

I can't go to any party where only Bud Light is served. Bud products give me a headache while I'm drinking.

I prefer to acquire my headaches the next morning when I wake up.

Also, as a general note, I'm sick and (frank)ing tired of people poopting on Coburn and Grossmann. These guys are paid UNDER what they'd get if they hit the open market. People female dog and moan about them all day because they expect them to be perfect shutdown defenders who are mobile, have 100 MPH slapshots, and are without fault. To those people, screw your (frank)ing heads on.

Every member of the defense (save Schenn and Timonen) had an absolutely abysmal year last year. That includes Gustafsson up until the very end. But if you look at the defenses around the league, Coburn and Grossmann are on par or better than what most of the NHL can offer in their 4-6 D spots. I'm sorry Coburn had a horrible season where the entire team sucked and that he hasn't produced at the same clip he did in 07/08. I'm sorry Grossmann is about an unsexy as a player can be, only being one of the better bottom-3 defensive defensemen in the league.

You heard the saying "The Grass Isn't Always Greener?" That's what you'd get if you just "dumped" one of these players. They'd go off to a team that actually plays with a good team defense, and although they'd be the same players and play to the same level, you'd all be moaning about how good they are, and why they never played like that here. In short, you can all go (frank) yourselves and actually learn why this highly competent defense can't seemingly function.

You are right, and I think Berube will figure it out too.

I still expect them to trade a defenseman at some point this season. The depth is a good thing to have but the mix is wrong and too expensive (again this is more a Homer problem).

Well, they're doing alright with the cap right now, and $10.5M comes off the books after this year, and they'll have 1 spot to replace. If it's not Mez they trade, they'll have 2 spots to replace.

I like those guys, but feel some of them have the same skill sets.
The main problem isn't Coburn or G-NN.

It's that Kimmo and now Streit are on the downside of their careers and still are expected to be the puck transition offensive defenseman.
Not saying anything you don't know here, so apologies.
