And "effort" gets them where? 25th? Like I said, losing is losing. The problem with this town is that we clamor for guys who show effort, rather than guys who aspire to be great.
- buffalofan19

Girgensons shows effort and aspires to be great. He does everything he can whether it be practice or a game to make himself better. He's never satisfied with where he is as a player.

I wish that Rolston would give him more ice time. Personally, I think he's earned it.

Signed for 5 more years, your Buffalo Sabres #1 center

Roy > Hodgson, but you wont hear many Buffalo fans admit it because they somehow had problems with Roy attitude even though he always delivered

- theblueandgold

I never liked Hodgson's deal to begin with, but the Sabres played their best hockey when Derek Roy was out of the lineup.

His deal is that of a number 2 center. Which hopefully soon he will be

And I do like that about him. Time will tell though how great he can really (and by that I mean his skillset). He was way past Grigorenko in his development, and that's exactly why this team is in trouble.

The games against Detroit, Ottawa and Tampa Bay I had no problem with. The team played some good hockey, just didnt finish. If they brought that game every night, breaks are going to come their way and they wouldnt be losing all the time.

Tonight and Pittsburgh games though... pathetic.

i think tonight's game shows that they can buckle down and play a sound defensive game. After allowing 4 goals within the first 22 mins of the game, they didn't allow another one. The problem is that they can't let themselves get down 3 goals before they decide it's a good idea to play better defensively. Especially when they're averaging 1 goal a game.

Grigo needs time. Joe Thornton had some similar issues as an 18-20 year old, floated around, didn't want the puck on his stick, give it time

I almost feel like he just doesn't know what to do because the whole team is just so bad right now. It's like he's trying to force things that just aren't there.

At least twice tonight I saw guys send passes to teammates that were completely surrounded by 3 Columbus players.

- HonkFortheGoose

IMO, he's no different than what we saw out of him last year. Still skates the same awkward stride and slow. Plays no defense. He'll get his points and produce offense because he is talented, but I really question how high his hockey IQ is.

Another problem I have with our team is the way they take shots. I noticed it with Hodgson tonight and since we're talking about him, I'll call him out, but hes not the only one. We get a 2 on 1 break, defensemen takes away pass and then steps over to shooter to force a shot. Our guys are firing shots high and over the net or right in the goalies gut. I learned as a peewee that on a 2 on 1 if the goalie has an angle on you and the defense takes away the shot you shoot it far post at the goalies pad. Make him kick it out to give a rebound.

Our team has talent, they are all just dumb hockey players... Vanek with the patented slap shot on a clear cut breakaway, unreal.

I see him being very much like Peca in every regard. Leadership, toughness, work ethic and offensive capabilities.

It's hard to get a feel for how he'll be offensively for sure in the NHL right now though because the whole team is really sucky at that at the moment. He does, however, have 1 of our 5 total goals, so that has to count for something right?

They lost to Phoenix tonight. 2-2 record on the year. It's tough to be a Wings fan.

Yeah, Roy getting injured when he was among league leaders and having a career season carrying the Buffalo offense is totally the reason the team got better.

Toronto blanked the Preds tonight... I don't think I'll be able to watch hockey this year.

As well as Burke built the Leafs, I still just dont see them as a threat in the playoffs.

Why not? They've got plenty of speed and talent up front. If they can add a solid defensive D-man at the deadline, I think they could be a team to look out for.

Plus it looks like they've finally got themselves a really good goalie tandem...and I never thought I'd ever say that

Idk, I still think goaltending and defense is a little weak. Just think that Pittsburgh, Boston, and Detroit would beat them in the playoffs.
