No, it's not dismissing him out of hand. That opinion is based on a number of factors. Those factors in which I have expanded on in this thread. I have zero interest in him as a player. Regardless of the cost.

And Bill likely has the same opinion. When he made this comment today.

http://www.hockeybuzz.com...p?thread_id=110403&page=1

Any thoughts on the quarterly big buff to philly rumors? I have serious doubts about that one.

Same view as before: Stay away from Byfuglien.

Yup, just like with Bill's opinion on Jay Rosehill, I disagree with him on Byfuglien.

Jay McClement comes to mind. And in the future, possibly Dave Bolland and Clarkson. But they're both probably too new to the team at this point.

in bold, a super underrated player! (he's been a best kept secret for years)

Who's captain-worthy on that team? Kessel? Lupul? They're not exactly bursting with natural leaders over there.
- Tomahawk

It'd probably have to be one of the FNG's....Clarkson, Bolland, someone like that.

Of course, if they do lock up Phaneuf, maybe that means Franson becomes available.

I interrupt this debate to say Colorado is very fun to watch. as you were

They're making the B's team D look bad. Definitely surprised by their play.

Franson's a lock there. They love him. He's to the defense what Kessel is to the offense, practically untouchable.

Eidt: I will add that it's under the current circumstances. If they were to add someone in that puck moving style he might be available but they are currently looking to toughen up the D.

That would help with Phaneuf leaving, but I wonder if Franson has hard feelings over the contract talks dragging out this summer. With the rise in the cap, the possibility of an offer sheet does increase, as well.

Another opportunity for the flyers at home against a team coming off a back to back. They have to take advantage of these opportunities

The goal given up was on the power play and a newly acquired overage D-man was slow getting to his area.

Ice looks bad in Sarnia, puck is bouncing fairly often.

Phaneuf out the door does open a swathe of cap dollars to assuage his wounded heart...

For all the "Timonen is done" talk, Chara hasn't looked like himself since late last season. I've only seen a couple of B's games, but he didn't look like his old nasty, huge self.

If he does go, absolutely.

I'd love to add Phaneuf to the Flyers. Of all the available options, he'd probably be the best one, considering the UFA status.

Kimmo's $$ will do, but yeah, that would be an awesome dream!

I say dream because I think he stays in Toronto, one reason they are moving other bodies, or rumored to do so.

I would love a Couts for Gardiner, not sure if Toronto would do it, or Homer either, but we are, again, loaded with centers 4 at 25 or under plus Vinny.

- puckhead17

The Flyers have one good defensive center on the current roster. BSchenn is not the kind of player who could take over his role playing against other team's top lines and killing penalties. Couturier should only be traded if Laughton comes up next year and outplays him and makes him redundant.

They've so bad for so long and are finally starting to come out of it that I would be very surprised to see them let him walk.

By then the Hawks were targeting him...dumping it to his side and attacking him. But even before that, he had some games that were very un-Chara like, and the couple games I watched this year, he seemed like he was struggling to some extent.

That's completely possible. I don't think they want to lose him.

Your hard feelings kid is Kadri. He was pretty vocal about his contract before and after and so was team management. Just when that relationship seemed to scab over it's an open wound again. I can't imagine them sticking it out. If they could move him or/+ Gardiner for an upper echelon stay at home defender they wouldn't blink.

He was hurt and Chicago pounded him in the finals.

I haven't seen the Bruins yet this season since they have only played a couple games so far.

I think I'd throw up a little if he became a Flyer. I don't have a rational reason for disliking him.. I just despise him. And I will now pray to God.. in fact I will pray to every God I've ever heard of that he doesnt become a Flyer. God, Yahweh, Zeus, Odin, Cthulhu etc...

I was surprised they dumped Grabovski...if Phaneuf wants too much cash or years, they may decide to move on...but looking at their situation, they have enough money to hang onto him, if they want to, and keep Franson as well.
