If you are happy with Schenn being Chris Therien redux, whatever floats your boat.
- PLindbergh31

Chris Therien is perfect as long as there's a Rico to go with him.

Letang needs his Orpik, Doughty needs his Scuderi, Subban needs his Gorges, etc.

Flyers have had a plethora of # 1 dmen in the 40+ years they have been in existence. They will just pluck one from the # 1 D-man tree.
- PLindbergh31

They have actually. In the early 70s they had Watson. There was a gap, then they had Howe. There was a small gap, and they had Desjardins. There was a 1-year gap and they had Timonen. I hope one of Morin/Ghost/Hagg/Alt can become the next in the coming years.

You do realize that finding people to stop superstars is just as important as finding superstars right?
- PhillySportsGuy

Therien stopped superstars now? If you believe that, I got a bridge to sell you.

Therien was a slightly above average dman at best.

I have a different definition of a # 1 dman than you do.

He did. He was the best shutdown man in the league against Jagr when Jagr was the top player in the league. Jagr had admitted that.

Think that Jagr stuff was blown out of proportion (like Couturier shutting down Malkin was overblown)... but Therien was a pretty handy player to have during his prime.

So Watson, Howe, and Desjardins weren't #1 defensemen? I'm not saying they're superstar HOFers, but they would be legit top defenseman on any team.

You wink, but I think that is going to happen. They will let Timonen and Mez walk and sign Phaneuf, Miller, and Gaborik.

Howe was. I'm not old enough to have seen Watson. Desjardins wasn't imo.

People will just complain that Phaneuf can't be trusted with a 2-goal lead late in a game, Miller's washed up, and Gaborik makes Zherdev looks like Laperriere.

I'd be open to that. Phaneuf plays well against some of the toughest competition out there.

You knew JVR would get off to a hot start with his new team. Once things calm down, he will revert back to his inconsistent ways.
- PhillySportsGuy

His attitude is too casual to be a perennial threat... like Carter, Lupul or Wheeler, I'm sure he'll have a great season or two, but there's just not enough "hates-to-lose" in him to expect that he'll be a consistent threat.
