"99 percent sure that's my last," Kimmo said after Thursday's loss to the Florida Panthers. "

Straight from the horses' mouth. But hey, feel free to twist it in any way you want and have a 10 pages long argument around what he said.

Regardless, the guy lost a major step. They all do at one point. There's no shame in that.

He's had a great career.

Absolutely has. One of my top-10 favorite Flyers. If the Flyers seem like they're faltering, I'd like to see him go to any Cup contender not called the Pittsburgh Penguins because he deserves a Cup more than almost any other player in the league.

He hasn't played well to this point. But there's a lot of players on the team who haven't played well. I expect him to bounce back.

If I didnt notice the decline starting last year, of always taking penalities when he is beat, which is happening a lot, then I might agree with you. He is not a top pair defenseman anymore.

I think he's still a top pair, but he needs to adjust for foot speed. The other tools are still there, and it's not like he's Hal Gill. But he's not 08/09 Timonen any more.

He's 28. He can certainly adopt a better conditioning program over the two years left on his deal. He's not locked into an 8 year deal, if he comes in and doesn't work on that aspect, then trade him away or let him leave as a FA
- Jsaquella

That sounds reasonable, but what do we stand to lose on the deal as a result if he fails to round himself into shape?

In other news, I'd like the New York Yankess to change their name because, as a member of a family who lived in the South during the American Civil War, I find that name to be offensive as a constant reminder of the North's perceived superiority over the South of the United States.

Actually, bigger concern than the lost step is, I've noticed a few times where he's been indecisive about a play, maybe because he's unsure of his recovery speed. One of the breakaways, can't recall if it was Carolina or Florida, Timonen started to go for a puck, then stopped, and it ended up a breakaway against.

Nothing. He plays two years here and if he doesn't work on his conditioning, flip him at the TDL or delve into the FA market.

The Flyers defense has plenty of guys that will skate through a wall, they need more skill. Byfuglien has skill. I'm not going to write him off completely because of size.

He wouldn't be my first choice, but I wouldn't say NFW, either.

My major concern is what it would take to acquire him. The Jets are in the position of strength, so our trade proposals are probably way off of the actual cost.

He's 28 AND he's so good AND he's in trade rumors again? Because he's so good and going to continue to be good?

Sorry, I pass on him and let someone else sweat out his problems.

Can you actually be offended if you're not part of the group being "slurred" against, for lack of a better word?

I don't have an opinion on Redskins, but I do get some American Indians being offended by it.

How many times was JvR in trade rumors? How many times has Shea Weber been in trade rumors?

The guy's been traded once, and it had more to do with money than his play or his conditioning.

He probably is faster than 3/5ths of our current defensemen.

I'm just not willing to give up assets for 2 years of what MIGHT be elite production.

What's the career precedent for 300 lb mobile NHL defensemen?

None, you have to have the stones to set the precedent.

I'm only saying I'm open to it. Not saying that they have to run right out and do it, nor am I saying he's the missing link. And yes, there are concerns about him, for sure.
