hey, good news is if we completely tank this year maybe we can get in the Sam Reinhart lottery. This kid has 19 points in his first 8 games this season for Kootenay. - jimbro83

That's the disconnect I'm talking about. In both cases Sather felt they were being overpaid, so he let them walk. Sometimes there's no measuring what guys like Prust and Orr mean to a team. Even folks on this site saying Prust and Orr received to much money, to many years. Well, I assure you, if Orr and or Prust were still around we wouldn' be talking about no one stood up for Nash.
Larry Brooks sure put things in perspective in his column this morning. What I took away from it was, my mantra since last summer. Rangers are not big enough, fast enough, or tough enough to win a cup. - OLDSCHOOL#6
I'm not really a huge Larry Brooks fan but he's correct regarding the Rangers toughness. I was really happy when the Rangers got Clowe, he was exactly what they needed. Due to this concussions and his being overpaid by the Devils they let him walk. Problem is, here we are in the same situation, IMO, the Rangers needed to resign Clowe or someone similar to him and then add someone else like him too. Instead they add absolutely no one. I can see the Rangers getting run over against teams in the West, Bruins, Leafs etc. If it was such an important element last year that Sather was willing to trade 2 2nd rounders and a 3rd, what changed? I'll never understand Sather, I'm not saying go get a goon like his failed John Scott experiment, but you need big guys who can protect your players. Dorsett and Asham are tough but small.
Also, apparently AV really wants guys in front of the net, if that's such a big part of his system, a guy like a Clowe (not saying him) is what you're looking for. You need big guys in front of the net for screens and garbage goals, who stands in front of the net for the Rangers besides Cally? I actually didn't mind when I saw Boyle on the PP the other night, if I'm AV I tell him do not move from that crease line, just look behind you and keep sliding in front of the goalie's vision. |

...and people want to ban fighting. Not sure what Sather is doing in the toughness department. First, he let's Prust go, then trades Rupp (not terribly sad on this one). We have skilled players, but withouth a player like a Joey Kocur, Tie Domi, Darren Landgon, or Jeff Beukeboom patrolling the ice, our skilled guys are going to get hit....hard. Guys like Nash should not be dropping the gloves to stand up for a teamate. - mames11
I don't think we've seen enough or Dorsett, I still believe he's going to be a fan favorite and take that spot left by Prust plus that goal the other night was nice |

I think it's rather presumptuous of Brooks to suggest the Rangers have so many flaws; after watching just three games. That's the equivalent of saying the Avalanche are going to finish tops in their conference and Varlamov is the best goalie in the league.
It's just too early to classify them as anything, good or bad. Patience is a virtue that has been too forgotten by fans and media alike. |

Brooks comes off to me as a smug doosh. I was surprised we actually agreed on something for once and I don't agree with everything he said just the toughness part. It has worried me about the Rangers for quite some time.
It is early, who knows maybe they'll do a better job of getting in front of the net and sticking up for each other on their own before it's all said and done. I sure hope so. |

I'm willing to give the team a pass until they return to a more normal schedule. I think whoever signed off on this 9 game mess should be fired. That being said, I'll be happy with 10 points, 11 would be considered excellent. |

I would be over the moon with 10pts. I think realistically we should expect 7 to 8 pts. 3-4-2 or 3-5-1. |

Out of a possible 18 points to start the season on the road; and with the injuries to key guys, I'd be happy with around 10 points. |

I posted previously that getting 1 pt in the next two games is important. That leaves the team trying for 4-5 pts in four games vs Wash, Philly, NJ and Det |

the team showed in LA it is more than capable of taking 10 or more points from this starting road trip. a lot of it obviously depends on the health of nash now, but assuming he plays, i think 10 is very attainable if the team brings their A game from here on out consistently. |

On the Stuart hit, I'll be honest, I had no clue if he should have been suspended or not and that has everything to do with no obvious consistency in the league's interpretation of these types of hits. I agree with Shanahan's description of the play; Stuart did extend up with his shoulder and caught Nash in the chin. But I've seen hits I would say are worse that either went unpunished or received lesser suspensions. |
