I'm good with the Isles moving on from Amac next year. If he stays, hopefully it is as a third pair Dman.

Hopefully the influx of kids will push him off the roster.

most ridiculous stat in all of sports is the +/-

Game-to-game, I agree. As a long-term stat, I think it's a bit more useful.

Love the goals from Moulson. Tough to take the lack of skating and D. It's going to be interesting to see what happens. It's hard to think of Mouslon on that 1st line for another 4 or 5 years.

I love how it appears as if these guys on the team are super close. From all indications, this team is incredibly close-knit. Going to be invaluable as the team develops into a contender.

I wouldn't be so sure about that price tag. I think fans tend to get a little too sure of themselves when it comes to hometown discounts. Moulson will be 30 before too long and is smart enough to know this next contract will be his largest. I'm pretty sure on the open market a team might be willing to give him $5.5-$6 million, so I'm not sure I feel overhwelmingly confident that he'll take close to 25% less to stay. He's very popular with mgmt here so I think it's fair to say they'll do what they can and yes JT 'wants him here' but JT is also smart enough to know this is a business and everyone's ultimate goal is to win a cup. Any move made with Moulson, resigned or dealt, will be done with that goal in mind. All things considered:
"I love playing on Long Island. Obviously, I want to be here," he told ESPN.com "I want to do like I do every year -- have a career year and hope everything takes care of itself."
Is a very vanilla almost cliche statement, so I wouldn't say it guarantees a huge hometown discount.

I don't think Moulson believes he should get more than JT. 5 million tops. I doubt Moulson walks away from that offer. He needs this team as much as Isles need him, plus he doesn't want to leave now when the Isles are finally good.

Why does he need this team? For those who claim the Isles can't let him go because of his goal scoring ability, you have to then recognize the market value for a guy scoring 30-35 goals per season. Whether he's truly THAT guy or not, his agent knows all too well what can be milked from the system. The article itself named comparisons that give you an idea of what his agent will likely suggest:
Minnesota's Jason Pominville, who recently signed a five-year, $28 million extension; San Jose's Joe Pavelski, who inked a five-year, $30 million extension this summer; and Columbus' Nathan Horton, who landed a seven-year, $37.1 million contract with the Blue Jackets during July's free-agency period

Now, it's highly unlikely the Isles are going to offer a 7 year term to a guy about to hit 30. So 4-5 has been more the model. Given the 5 year deals for those guys in comparison are in the $5.5-$6 mil, I think that's a likely target for Moulson. It won't be about 'making more than JT' because JT's contract is miles below his market worth. JT should easily see a contract surpassing Giroux's recent $8 mil figure.

What makes you think they are going to move on from him? They didnt give him an "A" for nothing. I think Snow is going to look to sign him longer term when his contract is up.
Giving him the A made me scratch my head to be honest...would have preferred it they gave it to Neilsen or Bailey. Even Clutterbuck.

I have mentioned this in the past but I think JT's contract might handcuff this team a little bit. Snow can never justify paying anyone else more than JT. So getting that big contract superstar in here will be next to impossible unless they reconstruct JT's contract and pay him more. We all know Wangy will not do that because its more money out of his pocket.

I don't take the "A" as any sign of job security considering we moved on from the guy with the "C". That said, I can easily see them resigining him for another 3 year deal, he's very well regarded by the club.

I agree with the odd choice of being chosen as a Captain. Frankly I thought Hamonic or Viz was a more likely choice there if they needed to go with a dman. I think that does reflect the love he gets from mgmt.

I do not think they will move on from him. I would not mind if they did. I know the Isles really seem to like him. They do need to make room for better players though.

This is ofcourse assuming that JT is at all bothered by having another guy making more. JT is an extremely rare bread in sports today. He goes beyond the expected dedication of most pro players in order to be better. I think that same drive would ultimately make him accept getting in a higher priced, but lesser talented, player if it means making the team better. We're so damn lucky to have him. It's not just about his talent, but that he has as much integrity as any player I've seen in years.

Hamonic...yup, that would have been an excellent choice. All the young guys who are key to the future of the team with letters.

Playing on a team that gives up A LOT of shots over the years, I'm sure that's bound to happen. Especially considering the last team leader not named MacDonald was second in the league in that category. Hey, it's a decent mark of a guy willing to literally lay it all on the ice, but I don't think that's a terribly difficult stat to replace, especially considering his linemate is typically only 4-5 blocks behind him.

You have really lost your mind. He is on our top pairing for a reason. He is a very good defenseman... VERY GOOD. did you actually put him in the same sentence as Andy Hillbert? ...
