Any trades will have to be contract for contract. No to reimer, phaneuf isn't worth $6.5m per year and I wouldn't give up a first rounder for him unless he resigns in edm. I am 50/50 in the belief he is the answer to Edm d zone woes.

Yes, the buyouts are carried over into this coming offseason as well. But we won't have to use it as Smyth's and Hesmky's contracts are done this offseason.

I personally feel they could fill smaller holes by filling the big ones, by pushing lesser players down the lineup. But again, that's easier said than done.

The Leaf's ritual is do great until the halfway mark and crash. They may have added some grit, but that doesn't give you everything you need to excel.

Gudbranson , Tinordi, Cowen are the types of players the oil need. I don't think they would get traded either.
