I don't think the kid is the second coming of Perrault, but I think someone who is supposed to have talent needs to be surrounded by other talent to succeed. I'm starting to think he should have just fulfilled his obligation in Jr's and then moved up to Rochester, then to the Sabres when he was ready. If money is truly no object, I think we should just burn another year of his contract and send him back. He either can't make the jump over the AHL or the coach isn't giving him an opportunity to show what he really has.

You know what is sad?.... Last night I sat down to watch the game and if I actually watched 2 minutes of the first period it would be surprising. This team continues to be very boring, very vanilla, lacks creativity, lacks intensity and IMO has less talent than any team I have seen in the last 5 years. I turned the game off after the first period. They do not inspire me to keep watching....... And I have followed this team from 1970 on....... When I prefer Murder She Wrote re-runs to the Sabres you know they just plain suck.....

Totally....I just assume he looks lost because he's out there with 2 pylons with cinder blocks for hands....when the kid is used to "hockey" that involves skating and passing, how the hell is he supposed to show any skill on the 4th line...Again, what's the point? Is he learning anything about the NHL right now?
And if Rolston is going to demote him for lack of effort, why isn't Stafford manning the skate sharpener right now?

I thought stafford looked a lot better last night. Not that he's blowing it up out there but he looked a lot better. Porter also had a couple decent plays.


Ennis and ott both looked worse IMO. Ennis has been the biggest disappointment for me so far. He looks awful.

Drew the penalty that got us our 2nd goal. He does play the game right, he just isnt good enough. He's a decent 4th line center IMO that has to play more because of how our team is constructed

This is a new era, the term isn't contingent upon the sabres acquiring a star player. This isn't the same team from say 3-5 years ago. The only players remaining from the "old core" are Vanek, Miller and I guess Stafford should count as well.

By the start of 2014-2015 all three of these guys will be gone and the new core will revolve around guys like Armia, Girgensons, Foligno etc..

This is why I (frank)ing hate this team. San Jose has a talented, teen-aged C who's main component is offense. WE have a talented, teen-aged C who's main component is offense. The only difference is that we bury ours as the 4th line C with John (frank)ing Scott and scrub after scrub as the RWer... All while DESTROYING his confidence. SJ takes the logical approach of shifting Hertl from C to LW, in order to get him the most ice time possible. As a result, Hertl is lighting it up with the skilled players he needs in Jumbo & Burns, and his confidence is skyrocketing... While ours is being turned into a bust by our own coaching staff. You could see Grigorenko's confidence increasing as he got up in the lineup near the end of last year. He was getting the puck, taking shots, and making moves. Now, all he gets to do is attempt to block passes on the backcheck. For (frank)'s sake, coaches. Grigo played RW from time to time in Quebec, and our weakest area is at the RW. Put 2 and 2 together, and it's obvious that Grigorenko should be our goddamn 1st line RWer over Stafford. This team is too proud to admit that we are rebuilding. There is NO reason to have Drew (frank)ing Stafford put over our 1st round draft pick with 30x the skill. Rolston is supposed to be some developmental guru, yet he has guys like Porter and Stafford getting ice time over our prospects. Despite the ridiculously overblown defensive issues that Grigorenko has, he's a better hockey player than Kevin Porter. Period. Stafford may be a former 30 goal scorer (ONCE, ind you), but he should be on the 3rd line... even on this terrible roster. This entire franchise needs to wake the (frank) up, and get it's priorities straightened the hell out. Scrubs like Drew Stafford and Kevin Porter mean NOTHING to the future of this team, and yet they're stealing ice time from the kids... Absolutely mind-boggling.

They've also been around 2 decades less than we have. Neither of us have a cup, and I GUARANTEE they will get one before their franchise is 43 years old like ours.

There is a huge diconnect betwene our plays and tohers teams when i comes to pure skill. We dont show the skill others do I mean looka s last night when stamkos has the puck its pretyt he can do so much with the puck. Our players play like nhl 94

SJ also has three (arguably 4) great centers on the roster already.

How is he supposed to show skill when he has John Scott and Patrick Kaleta feeding him? He NEVER gets the puck anymore. His shifts start with the other team in possession of the puck, and usually end the exact same way. When he was playing with the guys like Ennis/Hodgson/Vanek last year, he was flying all over the ice. Talent needs talent. It's as simple as that. You could put Vanek on the 4th line, and I could guarantee you that he doesn't get over 20 points.
