I'm hoping we do what Columbus has done recently. I really like what they have done in terms of rebuilding. - jaumiller
Trade Vanek for a CBJ Rick Nash type return? Id be ok with that. |

Who would we replace him with though ?? - jaumiller
Devine.. does it matter? if he isn't getting the job done why keep him.. it is like keeping the annoying girlfriend around just because you think you can't do any better. when you keep her it ruins your chance at finding a great girl |

Dubinsky,Anisimov,Erixon and a 1st rd pick is what CBJ got. I would take that for Vanek in a heart beat. |

Dallas is a team that has a rich farm team I wouldnt mind grabing a few from.
STL
Phx- could use a top end name |

I have a feeling Vanek would retire before playing for Ruff again.

Darcy does not address the talent for the draft . Kevin Devine does now . The last couple of years he has shown himself to be quite capable. - Maximum Signal
i would say it appears that he has shown himself to be capable.. we need a few more years to say that he is capable. |

I wouldn't.
Vanek is a special player, and I do believe that the other 29 GM's believe that, as well.
The Sabres should clean up at the trade deadline. |

Even with no extension in place, history at the deadline would suggest that a guy like Vanek will get at least
a) a solid roster player >25 in age)
b) a first round pick (though it will probably be lower than what we got from Minny)
Could possibly even get a 1st for Miller (though its more likely you get a prospect and goalie in return) |

If we believe what that blowhard Bucky Gleason has to say, per Vanek's associates, it's all but a done deal that he's going to Minnesota on July 1st.
Hopefully that doesn't hurt his trade value, but it shouldn't. Hopefully there's a few teams willing to get into a bidding war for him at the deadline. |

Look at Iggy a 1st a higher end prospect and a mid level prospect and van is what 5 years ish younger. So a 1st and a top end Prospect are well within reach. I would prefer two top end prospects as my reasearch and scout team find little value in the late 1st. |

Even if that is true, i still think you could get a decent return for him. San Jose gave up a roster player and a 1st for 2 months of Campbell (yes I know it was Bernier but at the time we didn't hate him as much). |

The fact that he's likely to be the best skater available at the deadline also helps. If enough teams get desperate, you could rip someone off pretty badly. |

He may feel that he could put that team over the top.
Adding him to that lineup sure makes it look quite formidable.
And that slug Heatley will be gone, so there's that. |

At his age, I doubt he'll be a 1st line winger for much longer. Any team that gives him a long term deal better have a solid back up or someone who is just as good but younger (i.e Parise) |

I think the Sabres offer him one more contract, just to say, "well, we tried", and then deal him to the highest bidder. |

If the right offer comes along I could see them dealing Ehrhoff as well. |
