But the puck could have just as easily bounced over to somebody not moving their feet, getting into a high-traffic area, or busting their ass at all... right?
- Tomahawk

Right. Exactly right. Somebody else on the Panthers was likely skating just as hard as Brayden Schenn was...but in another direction.

No, you're arguing semnatics. You're right, 9 times out of 10 that puck isn't bouncing right to Schenn. But I guarantee that 10 times out of 10, if Schenn doesn't go hard to the net, the puck isn't bouncing to him in that dangerous area of the ice. It's a perfect example of a player benefitting from luck, due to hard work to get to the net. And it's the old adage of good things happen when you go to the net.

Could we call that "right place, right time" sort of thing?

And on the flip side, the puck could have taken a weirder turn to a guy floating around aimlessly, who gets a gift.

It's pure luck. Coming into the game, the Flyers were shooting just 2.4% at even strength, they were just due for a good bounce.

Still appreciate BSchenn's effort and overall game.

nevermind that. hertl's foot is clearly in the crease before the puck. no goal.
- hammarby31

HammarBro that was a sick goal no matter how you put it. Homer should take notes of how the sharks have built their team

Absolutely. But it didn't. I'm not arguing that it was a flukey play, I'm simply stating that we wouldn't be talking about it he wasn't busting his ass. The 2 worked in conjunction.

You can take the Coburn example for the other way; he skates to a puck and fires a lazy wrister that goes in. No sprinting or crazy hard-working play...it just went it. However, had the shot hit the post or gone wide, it's just a weird play.

My point is that the Schenn goal wasn't a "right place, right time" goal. He had to hustle to get to the right place before 2 other players got there.

When you pointed that out the other day, I knew they were gonna score a fluke one -- that's so ridiculously low, I probably could've lobbed one in from center ice and scored.

We all got a good laugh from Berube's reaction to Sielski's question about punishing Rosehill, but Sielski has a good point. Berube stated that one of the things he's going to change on this team is accountability. So, where's the accountability for Rosehill? Check out Sielski's Inqy column
- Dkos[url] http://www.philly.com/phi...onish_behavior_slide.html

Rosehill committed the penalty in the third period of the game, and didn't play the rest of the night,

How exactly did Sielski expect Berube to punish Rosehill last night? Bag skate him after the (frank)ing game?

I think Rinaldo has more offensive upside then we have seen, and just needs some time to develop some chemisty with linemates that can get him the puck and can take a pass. I could see him being a 15-20 goal scorer given the icetime.
- youarewrong

Woaaaa. Wow.

Rinaldo is the perfect 4th line player right now. He doesn't need to grow into anything else. His 10 mins of ice time is the max he should ever get

a wise coach always told me "good things happen when you go to the net"....and "you cant score unless you hit the net"....seems simple enough, but it is something some have struggled with this year.

And both goals last night are examples of it.

My favorite part is you can clearly see Biron try to scoop the puck up with his glove LONG after it's already soared over his shoulder and into the net
- mcefalu

i don't know what he's doing there. he reaches with his blocker to try to stop the initial shot. not sure he brings the glove over. weird.

You can't eliminate the fact that Schenn went hard to the net, as a key factor in the goal being scored. Yes, he got a fortuitous bounce. But he was in the right position, and he buried it. And if the Flyers play a better team game, and straighten out a lot of other things, I bet they get some more good bounces.

did he get a 10 minute misconduct on top of the double minor? thought that might have happened. either way, i wouldn't have expected him to see the ice. i'm so (frank)ing tired of having an unpredictable asshat on the team who could do something like this at the worst time. flyers could have easily lost the game with him in the box for those penalties. (frank)ing idiot.

Yeah, people are always trying to fabricate order out of a random universe.... hockey's even more prone to random strokes of good and bad luck, because the puck isn't a sphere, and the playing surface is not flat, and the boards/glass are live or dead depending on a host of variables.

It would be nice to believe that all it takes is hard work to get lucky breaks, but there are guys in the HOF that have made careers out of standing in soft areas and avoiding contact.

The right direction to skate hard to was the front of the net. For both Schenn and the defenders.
