You got laughed at because you can't get Subban for Couturier.
- MJL

Nice try buddy but I don't think so... When I suggested it subban hadn't even signed his contract. He hadn't won the Norris yet. I was laughed at because a lot of posters were sooooo high on coots. Saying he's going to be a selke winner and blah blah blah. Fact is, after last season those same posters would gladly trade coots for subban. At least I hope they would. My point is while I am able to live with the core and growing pains it's going to be for naught without getting #1 dman. I say young because our core is young and getting old player (pronger) would be washed up when core matures. Just my opinion but Philly will not change. Ed said it so himself. We don't need to change anything. And you're right, NOW we can forget making a trade like coots for subban because Montreal wouldn't. But 10 months ago they would have. If we had to add read I'd have done it then too. Id do it today if I could.

Trades are a coming and now we will be really trading from a weak trading position unlike last season.

I do think so. It's not about what the posters would do. It's about what Montreal would do. They would not have traded Subban for Couturier. Even before he signed his contract. And even before he won the Norris trophy. No way, no how, And if you think they would've, you're badly mistaken.

And as far as your last point about Philly will not change. It makes zero sense. Because the Flyers never go out and try to get a #1 dman. They didn't trade for Chris Pronger. They didn't try and sign Ryan Suter. And they didn't try and get Shea Weber.

I could see the foundation of what Berube wants to do in last nights game, but they have a ways to go.

It's certainly possible, but other then possibly making a deal and trading a defenseman. Nothing major is going to happen for a while. They'll evaluate the roster under Berube and give him a chance. Other teams aren't ready to make deals.

Ima feeling another 5 year no playoff drought. Hopefully we rebuild the correct way this time. Oh wait, we don't need to change anything Ed still owns the team. He needs to come to terMs with the fact he'll never see another cup in his lifetime

WHAT??? No offense but no evaluation needed. By anyone. Berube knows. Hexy knows. You know. I know. Hell everyone that watches hockey knows. Overpay to get someone if need be. Who cares. This team blows!!!! Yes, there is talent but guess what, there's talent in Edmonton and calGary too but they also blow. You need goalie #1 dman scoring 1st line winger. We might have goalie in mason or stolarz but without the other 2 cup isn't EVER coming to Philly.

Didn't look like we need a Goalie last night. And they already have the first line Wingers they need. And yes, they will give Berube a chance to turn things around, and will take time to evaluate the team.
I think everyone agrees that they need to upgrade the defense. But I'm trying to have a conversation on it, and get a reasonable suggestion. All I've got is that the Flyers should of traded Couturier for Subban last year. When there was zero chance of that happening.

I laid this out 2 weeks into lockout season. And surprise, after that season and seeing team this season it's obvious we need #1 puck moving dman and a true top line scoring winger. I think we may have answer in mason. People tend to fall in love with players like schenn coot read and they are good and have much potential but if those pieces are needed to be moved to land one of the top 3 needs to win a cup then you have to make those moves. Homer and Ed aren't willing to do that. Well how's it working out. Hopefully they move Homer on and give hexy a try. At least hes seen how a real team (la) built a cup WINNER not playoff team that thinks they can win a cup. This crap is soooooo old.

If all that comes out of this year is that we have a young bonafide #1 netminder that's finally found his way here, everything else is gravy.

Trading for 2 kinds of players isn't a rebuild. That's a tweak. You said they need to rebuild, and rebuild the right way. What's the right way?

You haven't even offered a reasonable suggestion on getting a #1 defenseman. Unless you think Ron Hextall is going to get the job, and make one magically appear on the Flyers roster.

I think pretty much every fan of this team is aware of the need, and open to getting a #1 defenseman.

I said last season get a young goalie to grow with the core. I agree mason may be that. I like him alot. Sorry what wingers are you talking about? Yes hartnell, dimmer, read, voracek, schenn are decent wingers but you are delusional if you think they are true #1 scoring wingers like vanek, Kane, gaborik, perry ,etc... How many goals did we score 5 on 5 last year. How many goals have we scored this season? Yes your players can have good seasons and fill innon top line from time to time But elite they are not. G is just going to be wasted here. Do you actually think when he puts a pass on hartnell or voraceks stick that they are going to score? Or do you HOPE they score. Bring in vanek and you'll see scoring

He won't offer anymore because he knows there are no realistic trades available to get young #1 defenseman right now. Whining about not pursuing a trade that Montreal was never going to make is all he's got to offer.

Let me try explaining it this way. The only way we are getting #1 dman and #1 scoring winger is to overpay with assets. So say (noT saying this is possible. Or realistic) but say we call Montreal to get subban and they agree but they want coots read cousins and ghost. We mAke the trade. NoW we have to place those players. That's how it becomes a rebuild.

Ok smarty, you thought we were going to trade for pronger???? Did we overpay to get pronger?????? My point is trades can always be made. It's a matter of what you're willing to give up. My fear is homer (trying to save his job) trades for some old player.

Jake Voracek was 8th in scoring in the NHL among Wingers last Season. He was 9th overall in the entire NHL last Season in goals scored. And he scored more goals then Rick Nash, Phil Kessel, Corey Perry, Bobby Ryan, and Gaborik, who scored all of 12 goals last year.

Voracek's totals last year prorated over an 82 game Season, project to 38 goals and 41 assists for 79 points. That's a first line Winger.

Hartnell is inconsistent from year to year, but he has proven he can play on a first line racking up 37 goals, as well as leading the NHL in PP goals in 11/12.

Not scoring enough at 5 on 5 last year, was not due to a lack of scoring talent at Forward. The Flyers have one of the deepest offensive corps of forwards in the League.

A sniper of the caliber of Vanek can help any team. But the Flyers are not doomed without one. And they don't need one to score enough goals at 5 on 5.

Trading 2 players off of the current roster and a couple of prospects, and adding Subban. Is not a rebuild. It's no different from the Pronger trade. And you aren't getting Subban for that.
