I love the fact that the third line was playing a lot towards the end of that game. If Giroux or anyone else wants to have those minutes then they have to work for them. Why play players that aren't playing well all because its the first line or second line. Good for berube but the flyers need to get those top lines going

Absolutely. However, as far as playing on the top 2 lines, it almost seems like biting off your nose to spite your face. I mean, I'll work as hard as they want, but there's a limit to my ability. If one of the top 6 is slacking, I'm not opposed to a shift here or there, but I wouldn't want him playing there consistently.
- jmatchett383

well yea it'd be a bad idea to do that but at the same time the team would suffer but be better in the long run
hypothetical situation:
Hartnell slacking, Rinaldo replaces him on top line
Team suffers, Giroux female doges at Hartnell to get his poop together
Hartnell plays better, Rinaldo moves back down

It's fresh air to see that no one here is saying that the Flyers "whooped" the Panthers like every moron on tv is. I'll say it.. we should have won. Both of your goals came off ridiculous bounces and the second one came after Thomas got hurt. This being said we didn't capitalize on the PP when we should have. Mason was a freaking wall all night. Flyers didn't look like the usual force that I am accustomed to seeing. Maybe it was just me.

And Rosehill.. guy is a bafoon.

i guess the panthers are just used to getting whooped

Some of us are realistic. Mason stole the Flyers a couple points. I think we're encouraged because we saw some changes implemented, despite the full effects being quite a bit down the road, in terms of better play.

I really enjoyed getting to see Huberdeau and Barkov. Those guys are going to be dynamite for a long time.

And Rosehill is a wasted roster spot. Zero reason for him to be in the lineup.

So you dispute that the front of the net is not a soft area of the ice? And watch the replay. He got in behind the defense, and scored. But not one but two players took runs at him. One before and one after the puck went in the net. So he clearly wasn't trying to avoid contact. But I'm done with this now, because the premise you offer is ridiculous, and nothing more needs to be said on it.

Nothing you did last night would be considered "whooped". Mason played a fantastic game and our PP sucks, otherwise we win that game hands down.

Did you read the quote from Kopecky? He said Rosehill skated over and grabbed his stick. Kopecky asked him if he wanted it signed. That's why Kopecky got the misconduct.

The Flyers are usually on the other end of these "goalie steals 2 points" types of games.

Rosehill committed the penalty in the third period of the game, and didn't play the rest of the night,

How exactly did Sielski expect Berube to punish Rosehill last night? Bag skate him after the (frank)ing game?

- Jsaquella

He should make him read mikes sh!tty writing.

When I, and most, people hear "whooped", they think of offense or a physical encounter. Not a goaltender doing when a goaltender should do. And was lucky to do, I might add.

This is up there with Richards' "This is Fantasy Camp for you" to Tostitos, and Rupps "You're irrelevant" to Seashells.

Erm, Hartsy is a lot of things, but a bad skater and a player with a lack of baseline skills he ain't.

He plays out of control, which leads to all the thrashing/stumbling/falling/bad penalties.

And he's downright dumb, so he often doesn't make the right play, or he makes horrible mistakes/reads, even though he's got all the technical skills to make great plays and produce points.

- Tomahawk

You contradict yourself saying he has skills and then saying he is out of control, makes horriblbe mistakes etc, good baseline skills would eliminate these mistakes,

I just hate the columns that shred things without offering insight at what the author feels would correct the issues. Anyone can sit there and say that the Culture is bad, but not offer tangible ideas on how to fix it.

Like when I called for Laviolette to get fired, I listed 6 or 7 coaches that I would have liked to see them replace him with. Seems fruitless to me to do it otherwise, because then it's just complaining.

That piece is little more than a pre-emptive criticism because Berube told the writer to get lost. He's automatically assuming that Berube will not discipline Rosehill because he got yelled at by Snider and Berube after his questions.

Can't ask tough questions and not expect a degree of hostility. Can't come in and lob grenades and not expect some fire being returned.

- Jsaquella

He could have asked the question better but I really have no problem with him asking it. And I agree with all that you said above. what irks me is, like you said above, Mike's response was to assume nothing will be done to address it like that is a fact. I am quite sure Berube had a talk with Rosehill. Look, I am not fan of the guy outside of the fact I will always root for a player wearing the orange and black unless its a bad guy but to also call for his being cut is a little much. Now if he becomes a loose cannon, then yes, get him out of here. and honestly, I prefer a McGinn or even Newberry in the line up over him but to call for him to be cut was a little much to me

I thought the Panthers controlled the play last night and it should have been obvious to anyone watching. They just didn't get the result.

Sure. Nobody said that the Leafs whupped the Flyers after game one. They said that Bernier was tremendous. Last night, Mason was outstanding and got the job done.

The team needs to improve though, they have a long way to go.

Running around like he's a headless chicken and not being able to thread an NHL pass and/or skate at an NHL level aren't really related.

i'm not liking simmonds on G's line at all. don't think they mesh well. maybe i'm just stuck on hi hideous form of skating. he looks like a newborn horse or giraffe or something. leans too far foward, with these giant shoulder pads, flailing about. don't like that top line right now at all.

and hartnell ...i don't know what he's doing at all.

- hammarby31

I agree and if Voracek stays with Vinny and Schenn that will be the number one line in reality, if Voracek goes back to Giroux that will be the number one line. Jake is the catalyst for both lines. I prefer him with Giroux and I especially like him on the point on the first pp unit.
