The rust of a full camp and a full AHL season. Prospects and AHL call ups would kill for this position and nobody would claim rust if they sucked (Holzer)

really? because you guys are starting to sound like you want Gardiner gone, while Philly fans certainly don't want to see Couturier dealt. that's a pretty strong sign. and yes, he's out-pointing a teenager by 0.04 points per game. awesome. now compare what they do defensively or on the PK.
- DoubleDown

Besides a couple people on here, I don't think leaf fans want Gardiner traded. The talk is mostly if the Leafs do trade him what would they want in return. Two very different conversations.
Fact is that Couturier has played more NHL games then Gardiner and both guys are still very young. Gardiner is a defenseman who is out performing Couturier on a ppg basis. Spin it however you like but if that trade went down it would be a fair trade for both teams.

Couturier has lost some of his shine and no one can dispute that. He has played 126 games in the NHL with a total of 42pts. Still has potential to be good but is not the god you are making him out to be.
Jake Gardiner is 23yrs old with only 90 games played and 34pts....that means Jake Gardiner as a dman is out producing Couturier, a forward on a per game basis - with less NHL experience.

To say that Gardiner for Couturier is not a fair trade is just blind Leaf hatred bias.

It's not a fair trade.

Think you're reaching quite a bit with names like Gudbranson and Dumba...

Probably right, Philly would need to throw in a 2nd or 3rd pick too!

well, Couturier has played more games because he's obviously doing more things right. and both guys are not very young. 23 is not "very young" by NHL standards anymore.

20 is young for a center (Couturier)
23 is not young for an offensive defensemen. Especially one that was taken in the same round as the Norris winner from 2 years ago. Especially sice he has barely solifified a roster spot.

No way is that a trade Philly would make

Exactly cool movie guy. What has Ashton done to be promoted over Raymond on the 2nd line? WTF?
- GCHonda

It's a pretty smart move. Carlyle gets to roll three lines that are working well.

Don't break up that third line if it's working just as well as a typical second line.

What does Couturier honestly project as, though? A good #2C?

I don't think TO would be in any rush to trade for a center unless he brings legitimate top center upside. Kadri seems further along, anyway.

It's paul holmgrem. You know the guy who traded a top line winger for 4th or 5th d-man Schenn.

With guys like Paul Holmgrem and Mike Gillis.......... anything is possible.

Wow, you guys are about is nieve is Edmonton was with Hemsky. Gardiner will be LUCKY to fetch you a 2nd round pick. Lucky.

Gudbranson, Dumba - gimme a break. These are high end draft picks with high end potential...Gardiner has one good stretch of games 1.5 years ago and now he fights for ice time and is constantly in the dumps with Carlyle....I think a 2nd may even be a stretch...

I seem to remember these unrealistic expectations for return in Edm when they thought Hemsky would fetch a first or 2nd + prospect...

Be realistic.

yeah, I guess you are right.
That would pretty much mean Myers is completely useless - 23yr old will never be able to turn it around - he's just too old. May as well trade him for a bag of pucks.

Yeah, spoken like a true Sens fan. How's Bobby Ryan working out for ya? He looks really lazy and disinterested. No wonder Anaheim let him go. It's obvious that he doesn't want to play in a small market, with an OHL mentality.
