Right, there are no difference between a 20 year old and a 23 year old in this league.

I still consider Couturier a prospect because he has yet to become anything more than that while having alot of potential (was projected a #1 overall for a huge part of his draft year.)

I consider Gardiner a decent/good young player who, while receiving many praise from Leafs fans, has yet to do anything spectacular as an offensive defenseman even when used in that same role.

- Scabeh

Couturier has lost some of his shine and no one can dispute that. He has played 126 games in the NHL with a total of 42pts. Still has potential to be good but is not the god you are making him out to be.
Jake Gardiner is 23yrs old with only 90 games played and 34pts....that means Jake Gardiner as a dman is out producing Couturier, a forward on a per game basis - with less NHL experience.

To say that Gardiner for Couturier is not a fair trade is just blind Leaf hatred bias.

This is silly.

Best exemple being Luke Schenn. He sucked with TO, still sucks in Philly.

JVR is a very good player, was in Philly, still is in TO.

- Scabeh

When JVR was traded to Toronto, for the most part, fans were very happy with that trade and I don't think Philly fans were...so no, this is not a good example.

I could see a Gardiner for Couturier swap going down, although I want to hold on to Gardiner.
- ThePresident

I said the exact same thing today but with the way Holmgrem gives away top end talent, why not go for B Schenn.........

They gave away a first line winter for a 4th or 5th defensemen last time. Why not try again. Gards is a 3rd or 4th d man so that should at least get us B Schenn.

Reading up on Florida's 1st pick from 2010 Eric Gudbranson. I SERIOUSLY doubt Florida is even thinking of moving this guy. He seems to have all the tools to be an all around superstar on defense. Where as Gardiner's game is heavily tilted towards offense. Unless Tallon has a real hard for Gardiner, no way this deal gets done.

Hey sexy avatar person. That's why Carlyle is a genius. If Kadri isn't going, he gets replaced by Bolland. Love the Kadri/Bolland platoon thing.

Shouldn't we all realize that Gards takes a while to get his poop together every year so far?

He's the Roberto Luongo of defense in October. Let him be. He'll be fine.

really? because you guys are starting to sound like you want Gardiner gone, while Philly fans certainly don't want to see Couturier dealt. that's a pretty strong sign. and yes, he's out-pointing a teenager by 0.04 points per game. awesome. now compare what they do defensively or on the PK.

The rust of a full camp and a full AHL season. Prospects and AHL call ups would kill for this position and nobody would claim rust if they sucked (Holzer)
