All of the sudden Gardiner hate is mind blowing to me. He's off to slow start, I think we can all agree on that, but this is the same guy that played great in playoffs and was an integral part of the future according to most Leaf fans last season. Take a breather boys, he'll bounce back.

Ya I know its stupid.
He hasn't even completed a full f'n season yet.
He wont be traded.
Once Rielly is sent back down, this media BS will subside.

I could see a Gardiner for Couturier swap going down, although I want to hold on to Gardiner.

I don't like making hypothetical trades but I think there is a fit with TOR and COL. Avs are loaded up the middle but thin on D.

Duchene for Kadri and Gardiner

Yes there is a drop off from Duchene to Kadri but O'Reilly isn't tradeable yet and is an ideal 2C, not to mention Mackinnon was drafted to be a 1C. Leafs get an upgrade in the middle. Maybe draft picks get mixed in but... everybody wins?

I like how you are thinking!!
This offer would REALLY tempt me to say yes....

So I'm driving through Prince Edward County, and I see a sign at the front of a farm: Talking Dog For Sale.

So I go up the driveway and knock on the door. A guy comes to the door. I say, "Do you really have a talking dog for sale?"

Guy says, "Yeah, sure. He's out back - go take a look."

So I walk out back, and there's a black lab with grey on his muzzle sitting in the yard. I walk up to him and ask, "Can you really talk, dog?"

The dog replies, "Yes, I can."

"Wow," I say. "That's incredible. Can you tell me your life story?"

"Sure," says the dog. "When I was just a puppy, I discovered I could understand what humans were saying. After a bit of work, I also figured out how to talk. My owners figured out that I was destined to be more than a farm dog, so they sold me to the Canadian government. I got trained by the RCMP to be an undercover officer, and for a few years I worked on their biggest assignments. Because nobody ever suspected that I could understand what they were saying, I could infiltrate biker gangs and drug cartels. I'd sit under the table of meetings, and then afterwards report what they were doing. I made a huge difference - many, many busts later, I became the most decorated dog officer in the history of the RCMP."

"That's amazing," I said.

"Yeah," continued the dog. "So the CIS heard about me, and naturally they wanted me to work for them. So I ended up being part of the team that figured out where Osama Bin Laden was living. But it was really, really dangerous. I was in the house when the Navy Seals made the raid - I got hurt pretty bad. After months of physical therapy for my injuries, as well as a lot of time to treat my post-traumatic stress disorder, they retired me the farm here. I'm just not able to do that kind of work anymore."

"You are an amazing dog," I said, and walked back to the front of the house.

I knocked on the door again, and the guy came back.

"How much for the dog?" I asked.

"$100," said the guy.

"Only $100???? For that dog???? How could it possibly be so cheap?"

"Because the dog's a liar," said the guy. "He never did any of that crap."

So I leave for a couple of hours and suddently Gardiner = all star defenseman that could land the Leafs a prime prospect or great young player... while the Leafs not needing him but the other teams surely will?

If he considers Couturier a prospect, than I guess Gardiner is as well, by his rationale.

Come on man, you know better than this!!
Gardiner isn't worth even a "decent" prospect, nevermind a good one!
Until of course he is no longer with the Leafs, then he will in fact be a GREAT prospect - and Couturier (if with Leafs) will be a BUST.

Right, there are no difference between a 20 year old and a 23 year old in this league.

I still consider Couturier a prospect because he has yet to become anything more than that while having alot of potential (was projected a #1 overall for a huge part of his draft year.) He's been used mostly on a third line for now and has alot of potential once he cracks the top 6.

I consider Gardiner a decent/good young player who, while receiving many praise from Leafs fans, has yet to do anything spectacular as an offensive defenseman even when used in that role.

This is silly.

Best exemple being Luke Schenn. He sucked with TO, still sucks in Philly.

JVR is a very good player, was in Philly, still is in TO.
