Agreed talk about ruining a top pick....
- Bowkes

If he's just going to keep doing this send him down and let him play. I hope peter Harrold wins the Norris this year

Send Larsson to Albany. He needs to play big minutes in all situations to develop.

After last night's embarrassing loss to the Oilers, DeBoer needs to set an example and play Olesz, Josefson and Fayne tonight against the Canucks.

Is this last year all over again?

Oh yeah, how did we do last year?

Team is too old, let's bench one of the young guys for a guy that's older than he is, then maybe we'll skate instead of huff and puff in the third period!

CBGB has been a trainwreck so far this season. One was going to get culled, maybe two. Larsson? He was one of the fittest defensemen in the combine, doing really well on the V02, and he's the odd man out, even though he's probably one of the fittest guys on the team? Make a slow defense even slower? Goodness. Let's see how this pans out against another western team, who'll skate circles around the Devils all night.

Unless Schneider plays well, I foresee another terrible third period. Hold on to your saddles...

If Larsson wasnt an RFA this upcoming off-season, he'd be on the first flight out of town.

I like the odds on Noel and Yeo.

What site is that from?

This makes no sense. By not playing him and allowing him to prove himself, his case in front of an arbitrator weakens and essentially saves the Devils money. I'm not saying this is going to happen, but RFA status means very little--Devils still control him.

Tell you what, this game is televised so I won't have to rely on my crappy internet streaming this as a comic strip, so I'll do a scoring chance tally on the game. I'll need some caffeine tonight.

I'll even do a period-by-period in terms of scoring chances and I'll try to keep track of the defense that are out for them...

I agree that this looks like last season all over again considering we suck at the shootout and can't hold leads. But I don't care how fit Larsson is, he hasn't played well. Other than Greene everyone has played poorly. Larsson continues to get thrown around like a rag doll back there, and I don't see any speed from him. He just looks confused...or nervous. He's young so I'm not saying we give up on him, but I also don't think we should praise him for doing absolutely nothing so far in his career.

I don't think Larsson has looked great either, but I don't think he should be sat. We know he is better than this and we have too many other defensman that should be scratched before him.

The way I view the Larsson situation is this:

Guys like Volchenkov, Harrold, Salvador, and Zidlicky have at best played as well or as consistently as Larsson, which isn't to say he's been fantastic. The thing is, by constantly benching Larsson you risk ruining our top prospect. By benching Harrold, Salvador, Volchenkov, or Zidlicky, you risk literally nothing.

I simply don't get it. Tedenby and Josefson just rot in the press box all year with Larsson going in and out. Three of our last 4 first round picks aren't playing. Maybe it really doesn't matter that we don't have a first this year. You look at tonight's roster and we may as well have not had one for the last half decade.

Unless you have a top 10 pick, usually guys don't play right away. I agree sitting Larsson and Josefson is not smart. Either send them to Albany or play them in the NHL. IDK what to think about Tedenby. I don't want to call him a bust, because he like Larsson and Josefson, doesn't play much. Matteau just needs time to develop.

Exactly I agree that Matteau for instance shouldn't be in the NHL yet but in my opinion at this point Larsson, JJ, and Tedenby should be playing nearly almost every game. Lou signed JJ and Ted to 1 way contracts so now he can't even send them to the minors. Pete won't play them and everyone's just sort of stuck in limbo.

I want these guys to play, because honestly I still don't really know what to expect from this team this year and if we end up missing the playoffs, I'd rather do that while letting our young guys get experience and get better rather than watching Salvador and Zidlicky turn the puck over constantly...

Larsson and tedenby will never be anything more than 7th defenseman, 13th forward material. by next year at this time both will be back playing in the Swedish not so elite league. josefson looks like he could be a player if he could ever play more than 3 games before breaking something. time to give either Merrill or gelinas a shot, after 2 years larsson has shown he isn't ready for the NHL. Send him back to Albany, let him play 25 minutes a game there and hopefully someone will sign him next season and the devils can get a few draft picks for him.

Not called the Swedish elite league anymore, you dolt. It also doesn't help Larsson that he's getting banished to the press box every five game. I hate the devils and most of the fans. But you're different. You're in general a dumb hockey fan. You have no idea what goes around the league, around other leagues and in the amateur ranks of the sport. You could change that easily by just looking online. You can operate an computer as evidence by the drivel you post about Larsson.

I leave for a week and whole operation goes to pot. Seriously, I've only been able to watch clips of things, but it almost seems like same-old problems. The Marty/defense lapses come in waves and are usually multi-goal affairs. Sad to hear that the Larsson in pre-season has all but disappeared.

Nothing has changed. Dominant for most of the game, yet can't finish or defend and can't score past regulation.

I'd be furious if Zid gets signed this off-season.

Tedenby is most likely gone. I don't see him fitting in to the lineup, unfortunately. JJ might be, too.

I hate to be looking past this season right away, but the Devils look really good for next year, given Marty retires. The Devils will be left with more than 10 mil to spend + the cap increase. Looking at the market, you hope the Devils go after Vanek. Then, you bring up Gelinas and Merill, permanently to replace Fayne and Zid. Sign Larsson to a 2 way deal. Right away, you're looking at a serious team.

But hey, it's only been 3 games.
